We went to the coast at the weekend and i found a couple a lovely cuttle bones. Ive got them soaking in fresh water. I take it its ok to give these to the buds. Ive only ever bought from the shop before. I shall dry them out in the sun once they have had a soak.

They sure are, Skysmum. That is all I use - I'm too miserly to buy them when they are just lying around waiting to be picked up. I soak them for a day or there abouts, changing the water a few times, give them a vinegar bath and leave them in the sun to dry for ages, usually because I forget to collect them in again! The only thing I do do is remove as much of the "backing bone" from the edges before giving them to the birds. You know the bit I mean? Not the crumbly stuff the birds like, but the boney bit that holds it all together. This can flake off in long thin pieces, and while I have never had a problem with any harm being done, I did read somewhere ages ago about a budgie getting some of this stuck.
