hi all i have first time parents bringing up chicks ,the chicks have left the nest box just under 4 weeks,i wont put them back in the box as i have done this before with another pair and the hen killed the chicks as she started to lay again. problem is that i havnt seen the cock feed them i have seen the hen feed them but when the chicks go near the male he just has ago at them, dilema what to do? i dont want to leave the cock in there and risk him killing them, if i take him out will the hen be ok bringing them up? or am i being to hasty?

It is normal for either cock or hen to be aggressive towards chicks. Remove the cock if he is aggressive towards the chicks and leave the hen and chicks in the breeding cage.

hi bb after removeing the cock,i thought of feeding the chicks myself once in the morning and again before the lights go out to help the hen out a bit, would this be a good idea or not?

Also at 4 weeks old, they will soon be able to feed themselves.

don't panic darren she will do fine ... . just leave her to it ..and take the nest box away ..or blank it off so she don't go in it and start laying more eggs as she mabe still fertile from before ...
