I'd cut the carrot up much much thinner, with rounds only a couple of mm thick. Makes it easier to rip them up and possible eat some at the same time! The reason we did it that way is 'cause the breeder just put a whole carrot in a complete carrot holder and let the birds help themselves when they wanted I will definitely try your idea Stace next time tho, as it might seem not so intimidating and they may eat more!

Well, if they are used to seeing a whole carrot, and having a nibble, your chunks should be fine. They are funny little animals though - the slightest change can make them baulk. I was using a different perch/piece of tree branch for my two newies today and they both were much more reluctant to step-up and sit on it than they had been to the other one I had been using. They had to give it the whole once-over before they would accept it for what I wanted them to see it as: just a stick to step up on!!
