Hi I wrote a post on the subject of pellets. It's on page 2 it had four replies all agreeing ..NO pellets. So if you want a view from the opposition I'm afraid you will have to look elsewhere. On a site that shall remain nameless I received...4 no to pellets. 9 undecided. 27 yes 27 calling me anything from a trouble maker to a dishonest person who could offer no other proof except personal experience, having worked in the industry. They would reply with reams of stuff from the web. Most of it stating that pellets are made from the finest ingredients it's on the www so it must true... Yea like those 9 seed companies caught supplying seed contaminated with toxic''s harmful to birds...Sorry ranting..B.J.
seed Many thanks for that, Bird Junky. My natural inclination is against pellets, now I've found out more about them (i.e. that they're NOT a natural food at all) - similarly to when I discovered what Quorn was made of (see www.drbriffa.com/2008/04/18/when-is-a-healthy-food-not-a-healthy-food-after-all/)! Could you please give me the link to your post? I wasn't sure what you meant by 'on page 2' ... Hi Here it is...B.J. budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=budgiefeeding&action=display&thread=2748

And I feel those that push certain products are paid a commission for this! Pellets were recommended to me too ......... I don't understand why a budgie would even want to look at them let alone eat ....... nothing like a seed!

Thanks for that, Mick. Do you have any thoughts about seed and fatty liver disease? well the first time i had my budgies... it was for 8 years .... i wasn't a member of any budgie forums ... so i didn't no any different than what local breeders told me ... my budgies had only a seed only diet.... /cuttle bone/ iodine blocks and holm sand as grit ... i never had any liver problems at all... some times i think theres to much info out there ... and we worry to much...about to much .... its hard to say whats needed and whats over the top.. That's the trouble with having the internet - FAR too much information leading to lots of worry! When I first had budgies decades ago, that was in an aviary, so exercise wasn't the problem it is now, with two stubborn, bone-idle, set-in-their-ways birds!

I have Harrison's pellets available for my birds outside the cage. They often eat them so they must like them. They are probably fine for a treat or a change, but I doubt I would replace seed with pellets... As for I&M, perhaps you could think of ways they could work to get their food? I don't mean hiring them out as chimney sweeps..... but foraging.... I agree, sweetpea - it's about time the boyz went out to work to earn their keep instead of me having to do it for them all the time!
