No can't say I have, Ruby. Only thing I have heard from someone who had, was that they are terribly sooky, and don't like being left alone.

Thanks Mick and Hezz. Our Alfie is almost 12 now, not very old for some breeds but getting on a bit for a Weim. He's aging fast the last few months and loosing weight although he still has a healthy appetite. Two years ago he wasn't well, off his food, breathing fast, runny eyes, just really poorly. My hubbie took him to the vet and came home with bottles of heart pills, breathing pills and a list of things not to do with him, such as no more walks, just to be let out in the garden and basically wait for him to die as it was a heart condition. You can imagine how devastated we were. I slept (or tried) downstairs next to him and couldn't believe our precious dog was dying. I gathered as much info as I could about heart disease symptoms and something wasn't right. I wouldn't accept it was his heart, I put it down to dog flu. The vet wouldn't listen to me nor would the vet connected to his insurance. I was told although it was sad it was inevitable. To cut what's turning into a long story (sorry) short, we took him to another vet with a hospital with ultra sounds and it's own laboratory. He had X Rays, ultra sounds, blood tests and they all came back normal. There was nothing wrong with his heart, his kidney and liver blood tests were all normal, the only thing that was wrong was the tablets our former vet gave him were very dangerous and one lot had to be stopped straight away and we had to wean him off the others. We were so happy with the outcome we didn't take the wrong diagnosis any further. The bill was £800.00, most of it paid with his insurance, but that didn't matter we had our dog back for a little longer and we took him home. He's been perfectly fine since, we've just got back from a short camping trip and he's loved the beach and chasing squirrels I just wanted to hear from other owners with aging weimaraners so thought I'd try on here. We have two other dogs a 7 yr Jack Russell called Benson and a 4 yr JR x Westie called Lucas, as well as two 18 yr old cats, parrot, cockateil, budgies and fish. Yes I live in a Zoo ;D Sorry again for the long thread

soft, easily upset. Is this Alfie, at all? I always thought they were a particularly handsome looking dog but I haven't seen one where I am for ages. I wonder whether they have gone out of fashion.

I'll have to remember that word Hezz, it's got a nice 'ring' to it ;D no doubt people will ask what it means but now I know I wouldn't say it sums up a Weimaraner though, far from it. They were classed as a fashion dog a few years ago but I think they've been replaced by 'handbag' dogs now. I've just always loved the breed. They are very affectionate but can be stubborn and they are fearless, so I don't think that makes them sooky

Sorry, Lesley, have been away for a while. It certainly doesn't sound like your Alfie. Hope he is feeling better?
