Hi everyone!
I hope everyone has been doing well, I've been doing some lurking mostly. I have not been doing so well and am hoping that 2013 is much better.
Just a bit of an update:
The hens are doing well, I must continue to keep them in seperate rooms from the males except for a select few as most of the females are just hormonr crazy right now.
Banana(f) seems to have a fatty lump on her bottom. She had it before and with eliminating seeds in her diet, it disappeared. Now it seems to be back, I've called the vet but they are quoting me over $400 for a consultation and a few 'tests' that would be a process of elimination and we don't have endless funds. Banana also has lost her ear feathers. I am not sure if it's b/c Mango and her got in a fight and he plucked her or mites or boredom? No other females have this, and neither does mango-who shares the cage with her.
Poor Pheonix died suddenly on Jan 2. He was found curled up in his food dish. Paco his partner grieved for a few days and now seems ok. Paco has been partnered with Nieve.
And poor Sky aslo passed away on Jan 4th. We think it was a heart attack, it was so sudden and Jim heard him make his last squeak before he passed.
Needless to say it's been tough, and now my poor sweet Ivy who has struggled with laying too many eggs despite what we do to interfere with it appears to be eggbound. I am trying to clean off her little bum, but I believe the egg has broken inside of her. Her little bum is caked with poop and I am just so sad, as I don;t want her to suffer. I remember Paquita suffered with the oviductal prolapse last year and how I suffered. With Ivy, I am just heartbroken. She is one of the smartest budgies I have and is so gentle and cheery.
BTW I love the new forum layout. I hope to get to chatting with everyone again.
