I have been offered the opportunity to rehome a 5 yo lutino male and I am tempted... I have seen a pic and he looks lovely. The owners don't want him any more but I don't know why. The go-between is the local petshop owner who is a bird specialist. (He breeds long tailed parakeets now - oh how GORGEOUS they are!)
BUT, there is a question mark over the health of one of mine (? Beak & Feather Disease - have posted on this recently) and I wonder if it would be irresponsible to add another one in...?
I had thought that my other budgie who loves flying and misses his companion out and about could do with a new friend but I wasn't going to do anything about it in the near future. Then this came up. Should I be strong and turn him down? Any thoughts? Ta

As you know Beak and Feather Disease is contagious BUT as you say its not certain that this is what little Berry has which can make you feel as if things are very much on hold at the moment. Personally i wouldn't risk adding a third at the moment. Have you any pic of Berry showing his feathers and i cant remember, did you say his beak and feet were affected in some way or not.

HI there,
Ta for response.
No - no problem evident with beak or feet. Barrie thinks it's feather stress.
And yes - unless I put him through general anaesthetic for BFD tests I won't know for sure.
It is tricky. Maybe little lutino will find lovely home elsewhere and I can see how things go following the mite treatment - I do think he is preening a lot less and seems more comfortable (and noisier) since. But vet was sure that he didn't have mites... hmmm...

Shame about the little lutino but there will always be another little bud waiting for a VERY good home when the time is right .
