I can't understand that, Skysmum! What's a little ice and snow, when it comes to budgies' welfare? But in your reluctance, you just may have kept the poor tree alive. You just knew there was a reason why you didn't want to go there............

We had our tree cut back really hard 2 years ago in the Autumn. All that was left was the trunk with a few branches that had been shaped, there weren't any leaves left on and it looked terrible at the time but we were assured it would grow back into a better shape. Then we had a very cold winter and a few euc trees in our area were killed off because of the extreme cold. Ours is sheltered on 3 sides so we thought it would be ok. By the next May there still wasn't any new growth and we thought it was dead. The neighbours must have thought we'd lost it because we used to get the step ladders out every day and examine the branches for buds with a magnifying glass. One day I found a new bud and you'd have thought we'd just won the lottery It's never stopped growing since and will need cutting back again soon. But, I have been taking small branches off ours for the birds all winter and it's not harmed the tree. It's still growing despite the cold weather, there's lots of new leaves on it.
