They are the best thing when they work properly, but I could cheerfully throw the *%^#@ thing at a wall as soon as it starts to play up.

Hate slow computers. I have to actually work on mine, so I have to upgrade it every 3 years. It's an essential tool of trade for me.

The only thing worse than a malfunctioning computer is a malfunctioning sewing machine. It's the only time I think I could get a hammer out and smash something to smithereens and actually feel good about it.

Mine started to play up the other day but thankfully it only needed a new needle as I work it really hard at times

Most things on a sewing machine I can fix (as long as it isn't one of these silly computerized ones!) Computers and I don't talk the same language at all! Every computer needs its own dedicated wall, I agree, Marleen. A good solid brick one from which there is no coming back from.

Couldn't you reset it back to factory settings Nat? Save anything important on a pen stick and load it back on when it's ready. It's a bit of a pain having to start again but good in the long run.

Cheers Hezz, you get my humour!
And Nat, all the best with sorting out your computer. It's a real pain in the you-know-where!
Talking about slow computers, come and live in NZ for a bit. We don't have fibre optic cable, broadband is 300x slower than across the Tasman Sea (lucky for Hezz), and some people can only get dial-up connection, unless they pay for satellite broadband which costs an arm and a leg. No doubt there are parts of the world worse of again, so all in all I think we are lucky.

Just think about pre-laptop times, Marleen ...... or even pre-computer times ..... sending everything by snail-mail. Now we are talking! But truly that bad? We had our laptop with us over there on hols a year and half ago, and I didn't notice it that slow ....... FNQ is very different to the Sydney's and Melbourne's of Australia, so we may well be on a par with you.

I only thought we were that much slower because they are talking about pulling a cable across from Aussi to make the system 300x faster. Perhaps this is a fibre optic cable, I'm not sure. My computer is not too bad at the moment, really I have nothing to complain about. I know a few people still on dial-up who cannot get broadband, either because they live remotely or because broadband in their area has reached capacity. We have been in that position and you learn to ignore internet and focus on emails. I remember typing my thesis on the computer of a friend, which was the only computer I knew about. The printing was on lined paper with holes at the side, and the letters in dots. I was very lucky to have this access, as others worked with type writers and carbon paper! Our club magazine I typed, burned on a mother sheet and printed on a Gestetner. The fumes were unbelievable. The good old days eh!
