In our house we're lacking a door between the snug (which is the room where Munchy's cage dwells) and the kitchen. Instead we have an archway. As such, we try not to encourage Munchy to come out into the kitchen. Partly, this is due to hygiene reasons, but mainly it's because the kitchen is also home to our back door, and the last thing we want is someone coming in through there at the same time as Munchy flies in from the other direction. Recently he's been straying out there if he's in the snug and we're eating at the table, he'll also often throw a ball down the steps so we have to pick it up and encourage him back into the snug.
Today, Munchy was playing in the snug with a ball whilst I was wandering around in the kitchen. He'd been playing near the entrance and at one point I looked over and the ball had gone. Instead, Munchy was standing near the top of the small steps and looking up at me. He started making small peeping noises when I glanced over so I went over to him and said "What's wrong, then?". He peeped again, then turned around and scurried over to the side of the sofa, before ducking down and peering underneath it. Then he turned his head to look up at me and made another small noise. I knelt down and peered under the sofa, and there was the ball! He's such a clever little birdy!

Clever little Munchy. How old is now?
They have ways of trying to tell us when they need something done. When something is wrong with Boo's world, he flies back and forth in an odd sort of way between his cage and the ceiling while trilling. It means something has fallen off, or isn't there, or just not quite right ... I have to figure out what it is and fix it.

Clever Munchy! I hope you have a reserve ball put aside, though. He will think his world has come to an end if someone accidently stands on it. It may not be the prettiest solution, but maybe a bead curtain across the doorway, if this does become a problem.

Lol, Sweetpea and Mizloco... I think I'm the one fetching!!! I'm a very proud budgie mum indeed, Shirls At this rate I think he shall be graduating from Budgie Academy very soon! He's approximately 1 year and 3 months, Stace And a right little gorgeous terror he is too! It's amazing what different ways they have to tell us what's wrong! I'm always amazed by how much I can understand him at times (except for those times when he won't budge and I need him too. Those times I'm just like "Just move for heaven's sake you little lovely horrible creature!" [Did I mention I'm short tempered at times? ]) Sometimes, if he wants food and his cage is in the other room, he'll sit on the door handle and if we haven't noticed he'll start calling to us. Or he'll come and peck around on the floor by my feet. The one thing I never understand is the very annoying whistle he does. Sometimes he seems to be trying to get attention, other times he wants one of his favourite balls, and the rest of the time it just seems random... But often constant... We did have a second Kevin, Hezz, who was identical to Kevin, but granddad stepped on that one the same day we found the yellow and green on that had gotten lost. We have some other balls, including his old favourite one, which is more sturdy than the others. Kevin came from a bargain pack of cat balls which hopefully I should be able to buy again if this Kevin gets crushed. Usually I save Kevin to play with Munchy myself or to bribe him to go somewhere, like back in his cage, if necessary. And yes, a bead curtain was what I suggested to nan if Munchy did become a problem. So far it seems fine but I'll keep an eye on him

Lol! You're right there, Hezz! He likes to trick us by pretending he's tame sometimes, but you can see in his eyes that he's a free spirit Surprisingly, sometimes if I stand on the other side of the living room to him and he's looking towards me and I raise my hand, he may fly straight over, or he may just look at me, but as soon as I say 'Up' he's over like a shot. The exception to that being when he's somewhere he's not supposed to be and you really want him to step up XD He'll also run along the floor to my hand sometimes. Speaking of running, he's just been running up and down the windowsill ^^ I love the quick little patter of his feet!

I've been playing with Munchy today, in between working out what I'm having for lunch next week (instead of work again, whoops...) I'd throw Kevin the ball and Munchy would chase after it, and then I'd notice that Munchy had rolled it back over to me whilst playing, so I'd pick it up and throw it again. This continued, so then I started saying "Fetch the ball over here, then," and tapping the ground with a finger. Finger tapping always interests Munchy, who always tries to bring Kevin with him, and so the ball would come over to me in a few rolls with me saying "Good boy!" a lot as encouragement. And then I realised that I was actually playing fetch with a budgie... And yet supposedly it is dogs which are man's best friend.

Good boy! But they are right little time-wasters. You need to work out times to play and times to work. Make the most of the times when he is active like early morning for a play and study when he is in afternoon siesta mode. Happy playing!
