I think I might let Kevin and Mia out if there cage for a bit. I have had them 3 days. Mia will hop on my finger and eat millet spray out of my fingers. Kevin will very reluctantly get on my fingers but doesn't want to know the millet spray lol. Do you think I'm safe to let them out for a bit? Let me know your opinions people! I don't like keeping them cooped up!

As long as you budgie-proof the room it should be fine. Perhaps just open the cage door and let them come out if they want to rather than forcing them make sure all windows and doors, etc, are closed and all fans are off if you have any good luck!

I let Mia out! I got her on my finger and brought her out. She's a bit uncoordinated lol just keeps flying round and round then almost crash landing on the floor lol. She's just sitting on the floor now, should I let her do her own thing? Just put her back in using some millet now left the door open so she can come and go lol. Kevin doesn't want to come out lol. He's just sitting in the cage being moody.

I used to just leave them to it when I had mine in cages. If they are reluctant to come out you could try putting a screw on perch by the cage door but on the outside with a sprig of millet attatched :-) If they come out of their own accord they are more likely to get a good idea of what the room looks like before they take flight in a panic if they are brought out. But either way they soon learn. However if they come out on your finger they are more likely to learn to go back on your finger. Pros and cons either way :-) Good luck :-)

It can take them a long time sometimes to get used to coming out, as nat said some people make sure they are hand tame first and others just let them get the idea themselves by leaving the door open for a period of time every day. All of mine are trained to step onto a spare perch so that when i need to get them in or out its job done , they prefer this to my hand and hop straight on.

I need to make my dinner I'm starving! Am I ok to leave the room while they are out? I think Kevin is scared shitless . He's just sitting there gripping the curtains right at the top? Can birds be slightly blind?

I would say it's ok to let them out, I only kept mine in the cage for a few hours before letting them explore the flat. The only problem you might have is getting them back in! I'm sure they will be fine

Yeh I got them back in in the end, Mia came on my hand quite easily with a bit of millet, I even had her sitting on my shoulder lol. Kevin needed a little bit of coaxing onto a perch, I think he only got on cuz he was tired lol. I eventually got Kevin to eat some millet from my fingers when back in the cage and he even stepped into my finger to eat it.. They are very quiet and still now so I think they are ready for bed. So am I for that matter I'm knackered after all that excitement lol

That's great. It's good fun isn't it when they first come out to explore. Just wait till they won't get back in. Maybe you'll be lucky and they'll behave. Mine never did!

Yeh it was good fun, very tiring tho lol. They didn't seem to keen on coming out today. I got them new bigger cage today aswell so 2moz I'm just going to open the top and the door and let them do as they please. Looking forward to it! They are so time consuming tho. All of my hours at home are used up playing and looking after them! I thought this was gona be easy! Lol
