My middle daughter (I have 3 and a son) has just been promoted to room leader AKA supervisor in the nursery where she works. She turned 22 years old in February and has Aspergers syndrome. Most people of her age haven't made it to level 3 in childcare, she is now doing a degree in it and a management course. She will be acting manager when needed. She will be getting £400 a month more extra.
This is a girl who was bullied at school, who left with next to no qualifications. She couldn't get a job so did voluntary work in a school for 2 years to get her childcare level 1 and 2. Her first job was part time but she used the money to learn to drive and buy a car. She was then able to get a job in her current nursery where she looks after the children of the rich and famous. One of the children in her room is Davina Mccalls child.

Thanks everyone. It's easy to forget the hard work she has put into getting where she is today and that it has been even harder for her than the average person. She has had to overcome so many things. Using a phone to talk to virtual strangers has been one big hurdle, it may seem simple to most of us but is really hard for her, she has to call parents if the children are ill etc. When I think of the little 7 year old who never spoke for herself but let her 3 year old sister do the talking, and how far she has come, I just feel so happy that her life will mean something and she will be happy.

That is brilliant, you must be so proud of her. What a girl, she has worked hard and deserves her success . I know where your coming from as my 10 year old grandson was diagnosed with mild autism just over a year ago after years of us all thinking there was something not quite right with him. He struggles with social situations, noise etc but is very bright in maths and science but gets very frustrated with literacy. Its been a long road but now we know how to help him he is coming on in leaps and bounds. Secondary school is worrying us alot at the moment so we are all doing our best to prepare him the best we can. Very well done to her and you .

Well, done, your daughter, Starlingqueen. Lovely to see people overcoming their personal demons and making a success of their life. I hope her new responsibility brings her the satisfaction she deserves.

She is a credit to you. And herself. It's a great feeling seeing someone achieve their goals like that.
