So far we have had 3 budgies who have taken a few days to settle in and explore their new surroundings. We got a new budgie yesterday which took a good couple of hours to settle in. We have been told that the budgie is a male who is around 8-10 weeks old. However he looks older than that.
Yesterday evening, Billy became very active around the cage. At one point last night, it looked like he was trying to find an escape route out of the cage. He was very much exploring his new environment.
This morning after breakfast he decided to escape out of a route he found. Cue lots of flying around by him, doing lots of exploring. I decided to sit down and wait for him to stay still long enough to get a cloth/duster over him. He is now back in the cage, sat quietly for the first time we have seen him.
Now he is settled down sat looking around the room moving up and down the perch, wondering how to get back out I think. I have managed to block the escape route. He doesn't seem frighted after the experience.
How do we now allow him the time to get to know us? I am hoping the experience of catching him has not scared him too much. And the fact he looks older than the breeder said he was.

Hi Beth, welcome to the forum.....................Post some pictures of your bird in question and we can put an approx age on him..................Most birds will look for potentail exits , we need to be one step ahead of them at all times

Thanks Barry.
Not sure if we will be able to tame this budgie. He's very active at the moment inside the cage. And we have always had babies less than 12 weeks old.
