I keep a pot of oyster grit in the cages and I notice the budgies visiting them from time to time.

I'll leave this one for the breeders, but from memory most of them leave it in a separate container.

I keep a pot of oyster grit in the cages and I notice the budgies visiting them from time to time. This is better Always leave a finger drawer in the cage, and budgies will visit as needed.

Finger drawer, which can be attached to cage wires.

It's hardly 3 to 4 inches long.

So would you say it's ok then to mix grit in with there seed? Personally, I wouldn't do that. They don't eat grit as much as seeds, so most of it will go to waste.

So would you say it's ok then to mix grit in with there seed? It's okay in that it won't hurt them. It;'s just more convenient to put them in separate pots, as BB has said.

Ok. It's just they have a grit pot but I've never seen them use it.

Throw it about! Don't they just!! I have one bird who loves spending her time flinging grit everywhere especially when I've just topped the pot up. I make sure there's always a supply for them to "dip" into but the finger bowl looks ideal. I wouldn't mix grit and seed. If they want some they are pretty good at helping themselves. Years ago I was able to buy pots & drinkers from a mail order company but I can't seem to find a supplier. Can anyone help out, please? Local pets shops have only a narrow range and so far I've found little on-line.

Lol, it always seems to be the girls :-) I think they actually like to get in it to have a kind of sand bath :-)
