Yesterday Sam the collie was playing in a ditch on the common. Theres a railway line close by but has security fencing running all along it from the floor to about 7ft high. Someone seems to have made a hole at the base in the ditch (dog size) and Sam got onto the tracks! He couldn't find the hole to get back as it was so small and was panicing as was I ! Next thing I know I'm on the other side of the fence grabbing Sam, only for a train to come past seconds later. But then I couldn't get back over the fence with Sam lol. I had ripped the backside out of my jeans and landed in a pile of thorns getting over and suddenly the fence was massive and unclimable!. The only option was to stand in the thorns and lift the collie over my head and chuck him over the fence! Of course my trainer got caught in thorns while doing this lol so I'm stuck on 1 leg. Sams been jumping 5 bar gates lately and actually landed well. Then with a bit of adrenalin left over for energy I went over too. A woman arrived just as I threw the dog over the fence ( luckily the tracks were higher level than the field so I could reacch) and must have thought I was some type of loony lol Lucky escape for Sam. I'll be taking my wellies and a bit of aviary mesh down there to cover the hole in the ditch as another dog walker on the way home said her spaniel had got through there too!

Just another nickname to add to your repertoire. Well done you for saving the day ...... never mind about the jeans and trainers . Not a bad effort getting Sam back over the fence ....... he'd have to weigh around 20kg wouldn't he? Maybe more than that. That converts to 44 pounds.

Flipping heck Nat. Amazing what adrenaline can do though. Thank goodness he is okay and you got into Wonder Woman mode like you did.

My sentiments exactly lousette! Amazing what adrenaline can do in times of stress, am just glad no one was hurt/injured. Sorry to hear about your Jeans nat, bet that was a very flattering look on the way home (you could start a trend)!

I agree with all everyone else has said you certainly do sound like a superhero Nat. Maybe ever so slightly less stylish with your "wardrobe malfunction" on the way home... you are probably a local legend now one way or another Good on you for getting the hole fixed too before a tragedy does occur

Lol, I was sort of laughing with relief afterwards so the woman must have thought I was bats! At least being a punk the jeans will actually get a promotion from work wardrobe to the 'punk wardrobe' lol where they will be made funky with pins and patches They'll be good with my kilt over the top lol

Go Nat! Dogs can get their owners into all sorts of unpredictable predicaments out in the world. They like to make us look like nutters. At least you're fit enough to look the part.

So glad you're OK Nat, things could so easily have been different if Sam had touched the live rail. My husband is a freight train driver, I will ask him if there is a number you can call to report the fence damage.

Perhaps it might be an idea nat to get onto the rail people about it? After all it should be their responsiblility and if something serious did happen they would be liable? Just a thought...
