Hi guys I haven't been on here much for a week or so as I've been busy making "creative decisions" (otherwise known as getting my own way!!) with my website. My clever son Dave has made me a website to sell my cake toppers through as though I have a small regular client base I would like to sell more and reach a bigger potential market. Here is the link to my website: www.twinkletopper.co.uk/Please can you tell anyone you know who may be interested, and Dave is keen for feedback as he has only been doing his college course for 1 year so far and though I think he's amazing he always wants to do better - good for him! Also I'd love for anyone who would like to, to "like" my facebook page Dave has set up for me which is called Twinkletops just search for it on the facebook site. Thankyou in advance for your support.

WOW - Sarah - this a whole other world to me!!! The toppers you have made are wonderful - you are very creative. It is a GREAT idea to have this kind of lasting momento of a special occasion and so personal too. Brilliant.
One suggestion - get a couple of civil partnership toppers up there - I think this kind of thing could be BIG in the gay world!!!

Yes I agree...what a great site too. Your son has done a good job. I would agree also about the civil partners topper. Would you do special ones if ordered too? I have liked your Facebook page too. My step mum used to have a wedding cake business and I loved watching her work. You are very clever.

My step mum used to have a wedding cake business and I loved watching her work. You are very clever. Every one I've ever made has been with the clothes, hairstyles, even height differences and on one occasion a birth mark to make it resemble the recipient of the topper! I have never yet been asked to make one for a civil partnership but it's certainly something I would do. I'd love the challenge of making a bride wearing a beautiful Sari, so I hope one day I will get that chance too!

Hey Sarah. Congrats on the new website. Dave has done a very good job. I've also been through college for web and graphic design, so if your son wanted some feedback, maybe I can help.
Overall it looks very good. I think the boxes containing the text and images should have a larger margin though, so the content doesn't touch the edges.
Also, I feel that the main text on the homepage should be broken up a bit. When viewers see a "wall" of text, they usually don't read it at all (People are lazy when it comes to reading lol). You can fix it by dividing it up with subheadings or just separate mini paragraphs. For example, one could be a line or two about what you do and how you got started, the second little paragraph could be more about your product, the third could be about the materials you use etc etc.
The last issue is with the Facebook link. I think it's too close to the "Contact Us" link and when I clicked on it, it didn't take me to your FB page.
Other than those three things, I think it looks great. Your cake toppers are really cute too. I'll definitely like your Facebook page when I find it. =)

Thankyou Katie, that's very useful- it will be worked on!! Can I ask please what you see regarding margins etc, as we're not exactly sure what you mean, but I totally get the writing bit and will sort that out. I think we'll take the facebook link out for now and put it back when he has more experience- it's just a little extra really so not vital right now.

She means that where the text sits in the pink box, there should be a small gap on the sides so the text sits as a neat block of text inside. Visually, you want to have a little bit of "air" between the text block and the edges of the pink box. As with using smaller paragraphs, rather than long pieces of text, pulling the text in from the sides makes it easier to read and digest. Try reducing the text block by about 1/2 to 1cm on those left and right edges. Think of how you'd frame a picture, using a plain border to draw the eye into the picture itself.

I'm really bad at explaining things haha. But Stace is exactly right. The content should be framed in a way that it draws the viewers' eyes in. Otherwise it will be competing with the background for attention. I'm glad I could help a little. =)
