How amazing! She is beautiful! I am guessing you know she is female from her light cere? Am I right in thinking this is a long-tailed parakeet? What a lovely visitor to have, and she looks in good condition but is she likely to do okay in the long term, do we know?

Im sure she will be fine as we have around (if not more) a 100 around us,big flocks xxx

Penelope is beautiful and doesn't look wild at all BB she is ADORABLE and so different from the other parakeets...when we open our door the others will fly away STRAIGHT away but she just stays with us....she also nearly always turns up with a big fat pigeon that we think is her best friend

Thanks Moogie - how interesting - she must look even more stunning with her ugly friend!
I wish we had some interesting birds round by me - just pigeons and gulls which in the last couple of days have covered my car and sitting room window in sh*t - thanks awfully!
I saw and heard some oyster catchers when I was out today - ten a penny really but I like them.
We had a herring gull sitting on a nest on one of the flat roofs at work but they were there for about 4 weeks with no results then some guys came up and removed the nest. Shame - we had a nice little springwatch-at-work thing going for a while.

Awww she is lovely. We have big flocks here too but they have never come closer than the tree next to our house. One did come investigate when he heard hob shriek one day but they are definitely not as special as Penelope. They are thriving in the wild in London and surrounding areas.

Yes they are quite common throughout the UK. but I have never seen one so tame before. The usually keep a distance from humans. Very nice to see.

Wow she is lovely Moogie, ive heard about these parrots but never seen them. We are about 20 miles from London but i think they pretty much stay in the London area. Lovely addition to anyone's garden .

Alexandrines are very similar looking but a bigger bird. I go for IRN as I know you guys do have quite large flocks gone feral over there. Have you ever tried getting any closer to her, Moogie? She may be an escapee, rather than a wild-bred bird. I would have thought with it being summer there would have been plenty of food for foraging, but maybe not.

What about the accompanying pigeon though? An unusual combination I would have thought. Unless the pigeon is a hanger on waiting for the scraps.

yes starlingqueen and hezz i think they are ring neck parrots as the males have a dark ring..... I thought maybe she was a pet,i can get pretty close to her,she seems pretty young as shes quite clumsy...Maybe she is just alot more confidant than the rest and wild? Would she not have a leg ring if she were a pet? We have lots of places for the parrots to eat but like her they tend to always come to us people for peanuts ect so we are never short of parrots, only peanuts
