At last I can be happy that the 2 rescued cockatiels, Luna and Solar, in my aviary are settled. It's taken a year but they are both happy and enjoying life. The female settled a lot quicker than the male but he has caught up and is regularly seen climbing around the branches and exploring the area. A big change from sitting on his shelf in a grump. I even saw him eating from the treat bowl yesterday. Luna is always the first one on the treat bowl and when I saw a cockatiel on there yesterday I thought it was her but on the second look I realised it was Solar enjoying boiled egg with shell, plantain and a little bit of peanut, all chopped up small.
So Yay, I have happy birdies all round.

I take my hat off to your dedication. Glad things have turned for your cockatiels. As I understand it they are quite highly strung yet affectionate birds.

I've never had cockatiels before, many other birds but not those. I acquired them when I went to buy some budgies. The seller had 3 in a small cage in a dark shed. He sold 2 of them to me for £20, he wanted to keep the third, sadly. They were very sad little birds and in poor condition, as were the 4 budgies, one of which died shortly after. The female, Luna took around 8 months to settle but Solar I thought never would. I don't think they will ever be affectionate though. Mainly because of their poor start but also because they are in the aviary and semi wild, I think that is the best I can do for them as any forced interaction may be too much. I don't know what their previous life was like, except that a lady owned them and gave them to the man I bought them from because they weren't tame enough for her liking.

Well I know less about cockatiels than I do about budgies. It's just what I have read about them. Some forums go into why they bite. That may be why the original owner didn't feel they were tame enough. It's so sad when people just palm pets off to people like the one you got your birds from. Perhaps you are right to let them have a happy life in your aviary.

Glad to hear the cockatiels have settled in finally. You never did manage to get hold of the other one someone told you about?

No Hezz, unfortunately the person who has it, his mum decided she wanted to keep it as she would miss the background noise. So sad that a poor little bird is just some ones background noise eh?

Buy her a bird noise CD and take the bird. People have animals and children for the wrong reasons sometimes, it's horrible.
