I made my way through the bungalow to the conservatory at the back to retrieve my specs as my father wanted me to sort out his afternoon pills.
Then I noticed it....
a pigeon on the conservatory door-mat.
We looked at each other - neither moved. Eventually, surprised that the bird didn't shoot hurriedly away, I tired a "Shoo.. go on. Off you go out! Daft bird!"
It didn't sho at all but wandered in through the conservatory towards the dining-room door. I hadn't time to fuss or wait around as "he who must be obeyed" wanted his pills sorted so I closed the inner door to the dinig-room and left a rather beautiful pigeon sitting on the next mat looking in through the dining-room window.
Pills sorted - I rushed out to the shed, grabbed my camera and snapped a photo. Soon after the pigeon wandered off somewhere.
Obviously not a homing pigeon or if it was if had the wrong address!!

I was told the other day by the man from Tesco (not del-monte) delivering my shopping that he had a pigeon come to his house. He went up to it as it let him and got the number off the ring on his leg. He rand the pigeon people (i guess some society) and they gave him the number for the man who owned him in the Tyne and he called him. He said he was on his way home from Dunkirk no less nd not to feed him as he would find his own food but please give him some water. The pigeon was there for a couple of days and then off he went home.

Later, the same afternoon, I heard a thump from the back of the bungalow as "Charlie" (my mother seems to name all tame birds Charlie)had decided to take off and attempted to fly through the double glazing - again in the conservatory! I returned to find Charlie-pigeon wandering around the dining-room looking for something. He didn't explain what even when I asked twice. With the help of a towel, which I could easily have dropped over him but didn't, I shepherded Charlie-pigeon out into the garden. He wouldn't hurry in the least. By late afternoon he had decided to wander under the aviary potty-shed as well as get in the way when I was working on my slow-progress aviary. I explained to Charles (I thought addressing him formally might have more impact) that if he insisted in hanging around at ground level for long the local foxes would have him!! Then I left him to it. This morning: no sign of Charlie but, thankfully for his sake, no sign of a heap of feathers and a misplaced wing either so I guess he may have listened after all. Hope so.
By the way... Charlie had two rings but without my specs I stood no chance of reading either.

Oops, just replied to your other thread regarding Charlie. He probably got blown off course and needed a rest. Happy that it would seem he made his own way home.
