Thanks Hezz I already pinched that idea when you suggested it to ffiscool I've got over half way along the stick and it doesn't seem to be bothering her so I'll keep moving closer every day. I don't think she's scared at all.. just stubborn! Is there a cure for that? Lol

Stubborn? A hen, stubborn? ? Couldn't be! Sorry, the only cure I know is to be just as stubborn in return!

Are you trying to frighten Nettles?

Lol it's ok OP, I really think if Marge was a "biter" she'd have at least attempted it by now! She has touched me with her beak twice.. but she was so gentle I hardly even felt it. She chews the branches in the cage and the training perch sometimes but not me thankfully I'm not so sure about Melman though.. I'd say if he was cornered, he'd take a chunk out of me lol.

Oh dear ffiscool. Maybe stick training is the only way to go with Bailey..?! I remember when my niece went through a biting stage, the health visitor told my sister to bite her back.. I don't think that's really appropriate with a budgie though lol!

Is it a defensive peck ffiscool or does he think you're his chew toy? I'm just guessing, but i'd think there's probably different ways to handle it depending on his reason for doing it.

Oh! I'm glad you can take it lightly Nettles. I'm sure Ffiscool hadn't realised that her post could have put the fear of god in you. I also feel that the budgies can feel the difference between a finger and a piece of wood. You are doing well to get over your fears and I didn't want a thoughtless word to undo what you have done so far. No harm done then that's good. If any budgie was cornered I'm sure they would give quite a bite, that's all they have to defend themselves. Even then I don't think it would be life threatening.

no, definitely didnt mean for it to scare you.. I have no drawn blood or anything - and you are doing very well Nettles. I think he knows it is not a toy.. but I see him looking, so have been moving my fingers out of the way first when I hold the stick and switch the end I am holding. I am still trying with my finger and won't let it stop me doing that.
Do not let it deter you - not all of them bite and my one years ago only ever sort of licked me.. And if you do get the odd peck, then it prob will stop. I think once Bailey is even closer to me, he will stop.

No no, I'm all good OP I haven't resorted back to the tea towel over my head lol And like you say, even if I did get a bite, it's not gonna be life threatening! Although I have noticed Melman eyeing up my jugular

Don't worry ffiscool I know you meant no harm At least Bailey is giving you a warning and you can move your finger out of the way. And once he's more comfortable with you the biting will hopefully stop!

In my opinion there is a real difference between an aggressive bite and "having a chew". An aggressive bite will put holes in you, and while the chewing bites can quite hurt, they are delivered in a whole different manner. But I am inclined to agree with you, Annette, that if Marge was going to sink in the beak, she would already have done so.

Good luck with the drops ffiscool Hopefully Bailey will behave and let you treat him.
