What a lovely story welcome to you and Goldie. What a little star she is, love her trying to bath in the rain and also her dancing with her window friend , beautiful. My buds will step onto a perch but wont come on to my finger, however if i put my palm out 2 of them will sit in my hand , strange creatures .

This is beautiful! She is a sweetie! Have you tried giving her a shower with a spray bottle?

This is beautiful! She is a sweetie! Have you tried giving her a shower with a spray bottle? Yes, in fact. Though I'm told cool water may have been extreme. I'll try warming the water in future. She not only likes it, she loves liking the water off all available surfaces. Thanks. I agree about her.

My feeling is that fingers are like objects of a phobia to them. It's all appearances. So an open hand or even a fist may be preferable to an extended finger. She's getting comfortable with the finger in the context of the millet. Without? Absolutely no.

Love the video. If I may make a couple of suggestions, GoldieNYC regarding her cage. I realise that you have been thrown in the deep end with her a little and may not be aware of some of the dangers there can be in a cage. Firstly, no rust, not that I saw any, mind, more to get the big killer out of the way. This includes toys as well. She has a metal mirror type thing with a large-ish ring on it that she was rubbing her head on - it looked like the right size to get her head caught in. If this happens she will hang herself. Stainless steel key rings are good to hold up toys, or a few of our members use shower curtain rings which are also great. The other thing I would worry about it the plastic covered ties holding up some of her toys - she can easily chew through the plastic, not good in itself, but the wire running through is not going to be good for her. The only truly safe metal for birds is stainless steel. I hope you don't mind me pointing out these things, but it is too late once the damage has been done. Check out the thread below for some ideas, when you have some time. budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/2204/budgie-safe-materials-toys-etc

Love the video. If I may make a couple of suggestions, GoldieNYC regarding her cage. My thanks, Hezz.I'll comment that the ring is actually oval and ample size for her head. You can't see that from above. The material is gold-painted base metal, I'm sure. Maybe it should be removed. It's tough, smooth material and great-feeling I'm sure. The twist ties are a favorite of her's, but if you think the metal is harmful, I'll beg off and find different toys. She adores the key chain (which I clean regularly) because it's reflective. I've had a lot of luck tantalizing her with cut up window solar coating, as it has a mirror finish. It can be cut into little strips. She chews the strips up into nothing. It's mostly mylar, I'd guess. I do appreciate your word on rust and metal. The cage is, so far, in prime condition. No rust anywhere. I have been thrown in - correct! I very much wanted to avoid this, but she became a relationship very quickly. The sight of this little bird in the morning, upon the removal of the cover, is one to behold. She looks up like a tiny mollified beagle dog. I found both feet planted on a finger today for millet feeding. Something is progressing. Still a long way from actually perching on it and traveling. Appreciate the bird support!

Warm welcome to you and Goldie, she is a lovely bird. Love the 'demure Goldie' pic and the video. My Harvey loves a misting with lukewarm water in the mist spray, so I am sure Goldie would love it too. She obviously fancied getting into that rain shower. Good luck with the training, you both are doing really well so far. Lovely story as to how she found you, you will get loads of pleasure from her and no doubt she will enjoy you spoiling her too!!

Hi Goldie,
That is the sweetest story! Have you ever had a bud before? They truly are a joy to have as pets. I got my scared to death budge to sit on my hand by taking the toy he had become obsessed with out of his cage and jingling it. (it was a plastic ball with a bell) He soon couldn't resist and it became normal to him to sit on my hand even without the toy. Good luck. I know you are going to have a lot of fun with this sweet little bud.

Thanks much! I think she's controlling me with admirable skill, so far. She is a beautiful representative of the species and pretty smart. I do like spoiling her, and I think she knows she lucked out! I appreciate the welcome.

I know you are going to have a lot of fun with this sweet little bud. No birds in my life, ever - no. Thanks, as with everyone here, for the kind welcome. She alighted upon my shoulder during Hour One, but never since. I think all the handling ended that for a while. Trying to build back all the trust I can, and I think she's generally very comfortable with me. I haven't clipped her, but she doesn't always even take off - happy just fluttering her wings atop the cage. Great little brain. Hard to believe how beautiful and endearing this little mammal is. Glad you surmounted your bird's fear, too.

Please don't clip her! I know it is very common in the States, but really there is nothing to be gained by clipping that can't be figured out another way, and there is no more beautiful sight than seeing your budgie fly about your room. So, glad the ring is bigger than it seemed, I would find another solution for the plastic-coated ties, in fact cable-ties are a good alternative. While they are relatively stiff, they have enough give in them not to cause injury, they are hard enough so that Goldie won't chew through them, and they are easily cut off to the right length if needed. Be aware of letting her chew on all and anything. Even though it may seem that she is simply shredding the material, there is a risk that small amounts of these materials, whatever they may be, are making their way into her crop which can cause all sorts of problems and can lead to the death of the bird. Natural material is the best - leaves, branches and bark of safe trees. I am even wary of paper, cotton, sisal etc even though they are natural fibres. Sorry. I've done it again, haven't I??? I am not trying to put you off, or come over all negative ...... just things we have all come to learn; I am all for learning from others rather than having to make my own mistakes ...... I do enough of that anyway!
