Hello to everyone!
This is our first post - we are Stephen and Julia otherwise known as NaturesHaven.
We have just started along the road of a new dedicated birdroom (well a large shed conversion) as our sunroom is getting a bit crowded and now we have time we want to give our birds more attention and more space.
We are still at the planning stage but will be starting work in the next couple of weeks and we plan to show our progress on the site under a separate thread with progress pictures and no doubt seeking lots of advice from all those who have trodden the same path..... We know many people like to see progress pictures so please bear with us if we ask questions that we may have missed elsewhere on the forum.
We have been pondering ease of cleaning for the new room especially the inside flight and once we have insulated the walls and basic lining we have been considering finishing with plastic instead of paint.
Can we ask those who have had experience of this what materials they found best, easy to fit (we are fairly experienced DIYers) and of course most cost effective and whether they have found it easier to clean and maintain? We potentially have a room 14'x10' at our disposal so cost is always a big factor!
Thank you in advance
Stephen & Julia

Welcome Stephen & Julia to the forum. There are quite a few people with experience in this area so I'm sure you will get some great advice and ideas. It would be great to see some pictures of your birds.

14' x 10' is a fabulous size! How many birds do you intend to house and what will the bird room look like when it's finished... one large flight area / internal flight with outside flight attached / internal flight and separate area for breeding cages?
You have lots of options with so much space. How you intend to use the space may make a difference to what materials you choose to use.
My few birds have thoroughly enjoyed eating their new aviary... it has taken many many days for them to decide they have had a good taste and can now move on to something else. If you choose plastic it will need to be fairly nibble proof stuff so quite thick / dense.
What sort of plastic sheeting / lining had you in mind?
Vulnerable / exposed timber may well be nibbled. Some people opt for aluminium frames.

Welcome to you both! Being a strictly living room budgie owner I can't help but look forward to hearing about the process.
