I decided to have a go at making a new playgym for the buds and went to get some materials yesterday. I spent about £7 on the stuff shown and put it together with things I already had, including some willow twigs I pruned from a tree on a nearby river. I really enjoyed making it - let's just hope the boys will! (But I expect it to take about 3 months for them to dare to approach same!)

What a handy piece of work. I agree that will surely enjoy it once they get used to it.

Thanks! The quality of workmanship doesn't bear too much scrutiny but I thought it was a reasonable start. If they take to it I can add some diagnonals - perhaps with sisal rope. It wasn't a big outlay of time or money if they steer clear. They didn't like the sound of the drill!

Nice one, birdguhl. Hope the buds give it a go, for your sake.

Ha ha! I don't think this is one for human demonstration!
Well, I've put the gym up near their other one and I think they have been eyeing it but no intrepid forays so far.
I think I'll leave it there for a while (at least a few more days) and then maybe put it on top of the big cage.
They are normally very cautious. For example, there is a perch at the other side of the room under the curtain rail that Berry and Woody used to love playing on, but since Woody and Charlie have been on the loose they haven't gone onto it despite there being a bit of millet tied on as an incentive. This may be because of my innovative poo catcher (a triangle of cardboard fixed in the corner underneath the perch) making it look a bit different.
Rest assured if there is any progress, you will be the first to hear about it!
