Hello everybody, it's now been 5 days since FinFin moved in with us. And he becomes sweeter and cuter each day. It's so funny how this little budgie suddenly out of the blue starts chatting us up for a few minutes, when he hears something that he likes. He loves start chirping and chatting when I type a few sentences in a row very fast. He seems to love the typing sound or something like that. Today I hold some Parsley in front of him with my index finger and thumb, he carefully nibbled and shook it, since it was a little wet from water. Then I tricked him and pet him on his left cheek. He wasn't scared and in fact, after that we left the house and when we came back he came a little bit further to the front cage bars and let me pet his cheeks inside his cage again. That is so cute. He then starts nibbling my finger, like he wants to pet me too! Here are some photos from today. this time without cage bars in the way. Sadly my camera doesn't make good photos. It's a 720p camera and has 16 mega pixel... But for some reason FinFin's photos are never clear.

That is very good news on the trust-building front. It quite often takes a while before a budgie will allow you to touch them ...... some never like it even though you may be best of friends and they like to preen you. Finfin seems to like the human touch, so you are lucky there.

Thank you guys, yes it's going forward. I gave him parsley yesterday a little bit from the hand and since then he loves it and comes right away, when he sees it. But I just read that parsley is not good for them? I tried it with a piece of banana today but he was afraid of it and jumped on another perch when he saw the banana... I don't know why he took parsley but banana, apple and strawberry he does not like or he really doesn't trust these fruits... He really is afraid of them. How can I feed him with these fresh fruits? But something was wrong yesterday. The first time I saw how a budgie looks that does not like something. we went out for a party in the evening. and came back way before the time when he goes to sleep. But as soon I entered the room I saw that the music suddenly must have stopped playing during the time we were gone and he seemed scared when he saw me. I really felt, that he did not like that whole situation.... The damn WiFi must have stopped working and the radio did not play anymore afterwards. FinFin did not look at me, he avoided looking at me. Until a few minutes later, he slowly turned to me again while I was sitting in front of the monitor. I played music again for him and slowly but surely he let me pet his head again. That was strange. Never saw him that way before. He must have been scared because it was too silent I guess. Poor baby... Next time we need to go someplace I will turn on the real radio instead of the internet one...

i would think re the parsley, it is because it is much smaller, flatter, that it seemed less threatening. I have read mixed reports on parsley, but someone on here will be able to help you... it may also be the colour? in which case try a small bit of broccoli.. Bailey likes it, although not raw.. i microwave it as i give it to him when I am having mixed veg etc
i think he probably was sulking by the sound of it, when you came back.. but who knows... i bought a very cheap battery radio, which B has on when I am out.. if I feel extra bad as been out a lot, he gets the TV on so he has something to watch, lol
you are doing fantastically, but remember, it is still early days, so some things will freak Finfin out for a while still

Tanja - about the camera problem. I'm a professional part-time photographer. The problem you're having may just be with a setting or two. 720p refers to a video capability within the camera. It has basic High Definition video recording ability. The 16 megapixel capability is for the still-frame function (its main function) and should be enough to produce even poster-size printed images with clarity.
See if you have a little flower icon (vs. mountain) to choose from in your basic auto-focus options. Your camera will then look for something closeup (like a budgie) and deliver better results. Manual settings can be difficult, and if so, use "P" for "program". You should get better results after that. Also - use an ISO setting of 200 or lower to reduce what we call noise (that grainy appearance in the picture). Best of luck.

I did everything that you said. It's on program, ISO 200 and macro (flower) is on. But on this ISO level the pictures come out even worse... Then I tried something and put it on ISO 1600 and there the pictures became a little bit more clear. Not THAT clear but better than before. here are the pictures: Like you can see, the pictures are quite better now but still not as clear as I would like them to be!

Great job of trying something out, Tanja. The only thing missing now is more light. If you can ever get a "bounce-flash" you'll have everything you need to take great pictures of FinFin. There are even a couple of frames here which could be nicely-enhanced. The trick is getting the camera very still. If you can put it on even a simple tripod, you'll have better luck. It's tricky, as they say. Glad FF is showing trust so early on. I'm still struggling with the contact issue. Keep at the picture-taking. It'll get better and better.

Okay FinFin gets more active now and is jumping like a wild budgie all over the place in his cage. Sometimes he jumps right at the front grid and looks at me really cute, hanging there with this cute look. as soon I go to him with my head he jumps off again. He is so wild that the swing is moving all the time since he uses it to jump off and on and off and on etc... lol (rofl)But what I also figured is, that whenever I put my hand in the cage he doesn't care about that, but when I try to pet him or get him on the finger, he just jumps away He probably wants to alone and play in his cage without me disturbing him hehehe. Well let's see what will happen next! I call him clown sometimes, because he jumps really funny, sometimes it looks like he is flying vertically up to his swing and down again

FinFin gets more trustful each day that passes. He now has no sign of discomfort when I give him strokes on his head, on top of the head, the cheeks, the chest and belly and also he let's me pet his wings. He does not show any sign of discomfort, no sudden fright or trying to move away So cute the little fellow
