Hello everybody, I have recently discovered the joy of taming budgies, I have 10 birds 8 of them are adults that I've had for approx 10 months they seem to trust me but they are not tame. Our 2 babies that are in a separate cage are 6 weeks old they were hatched here & they are very tame happily climbing all over me they spend most of the time out of the cage. I'm wondering if I put them in with the rest of the flock will the chicks lose there bond with us? Also I'm wondering how to go about taming the adults, would I have to do it 1 at a time or could I possibly tame them all at once? I'd love to be able to let them all out to fly around the house plus have that close relationship with each of them. I feel bad bcs chicks have so much freedom that the adults don't have.

well it's a fact that in a group buds are more difficult to tame, yet it's not impossible, it's just a matter of patience and perseverance.
Always do bare in mind that each and every bird is different and some might take longer (alot) than others

My chicks were so tame when they were in the breeding cage it was lovely that they would just jump on me as soon as i opened thier door but once I put them in the aviary with the others they became just like them and seem to have forgotton that they used to climb all over me and sit on my shoulder

My chicks have been the same as Julies. Even the chicks I handreared due to being abandoned are as wild as ever now. But on the other side of the coin, some of the older ones that were never tame have become a bit tamer just because I used to spend so much time just sitting in the aviary I think they thought I was a funny kinda tree! But definately, when they are in a flock they do lose their interest in the human kind.

So true. Two of my birds do love my phone though. When I put my hand in the cage with a video of the birds on it Allie tries to bite my hand to liberate them.

Thanks everyone for your resonse. I thought the chicks would lose interest in me if I put them in wit the others & now I have a personal dilemma , I'm pretty new to budgies & would love to keep the babies as tame as they are but would it be cruel of me to keep them separate from the rest & have each other & me for company.

They will still recognize you, but will not be tame anymore.
