I have just been reading about budgies body language on www.officialbarrieshuttbudgerigars.com/petbudgies.htmim pleased to now know that my budgie is happy, however I then read that they breath heavy and sometimes regurgitate food when stressed or scared, well this is what piggle does when I try to get her to hop onto my finger, she doesnt do it when I talk to her from outside the cage or when I put my hand in the cage to clean her out , just when I try to get my finger close to her, should I stop for a while and just carry on talking to her and putting hand in the cage to clean things or move things.? other than this she seems fine, doesnt seem scared at all when I put my hand in the cage she just sits there chiping softly.

Hi Juju, it doesn't sound to me like she's stressed or scared - I don't think she would hop onto your finger if she was. Someone who knows more than me will likely soon be along to tell you more about her behaviour but I don't think you are scaring her! I love her name by the way, Piggle... It's cute! :-)

Heya, juju I'd say if she does this just when you move your finger closer to her - then spend some time with your hand in the cage where she seems relaxed. I guess I'd try keeping it around the limit of her comfort zone (on the comfortable side of it), which should with some time get closer as she relaxes. Another (probably easier) idea would be to try feeding her some millet spray from your hand. Ideally if you could pull one bud off it, then feed that - but to start with you may need a bit of stalk so you can keep the distance for her to get comfortable. Cute name by the way

thanks for your help, I have just put my hand in her cage with some millet but she went crazy so I guess i will just go with putting my hand in the cage for now and see how she goes as she is fine with that, i dont want to upset her too much.

Did you try with just one bud (thats not the right name for it is it?) of the millet spray? Has she had it hanging up in her cage before? Maybe you could try feeding her one bud through the bars?

I did try just a small peice of millet but she went crazy, she does have millet in her cage and she loves it but it did take her a long time before she went anywhere near it, it even took her a few days before she played with her toys but now she loves them but even now she hasnt been up to all of them, she seems to really check things out before she attempts to go near them, other than this she is fine, chirping away playing on her swing.
