As many know, Goldie was a wild little rescue. I don't know what her origins were, but I know she wasn't intended to be just a little ball of fluff falling asleep on my shoulder. Anything but. Lately, she's begun to 'cheep' at a decibel (and over and over again for hours) which would rival a police whistle. This has been interspersed with ack-ack-ack'ing which practically demands attention - certainly when one works at a desk three feet away. Last evening, she found refuge on a picture frame, and then flew off the perch repeatedly when I moved to return her to her cage - either as a child likes to challenge a parent, or as a frustrated creature who simply isn't enjoying the status quo.
This morning, I'd absolutely had it with the noise and moved her big cage to the floor of the living room for a while, within view of the big sky through much bigger windows. Somehow, I sensed that this might be something upon which to draw.
I found some objects which could make for a cage base (a pair of filled storage tubs for now) and placed her about level with the sill. There's even a radiator there, so chills aren't much of an issue. It was obvious, within a fraction of an hour, that she was responding to the view, the color, and the daylight. You could just see it in her. I'm comforted that there may be a clue here for getting through the Winter (a remarkably cold one). The light of day has helped. She will even see other birds and children leaving school. At any rate, every bit of hope and improvement affects both of us.

It's funny because the chirp you are describing is the one Allie made when she wanted babies. Every time she came out of the nest and wanted the male to feed her. Is Goldie in love with you?

Ah - the language of love. There may be some neediness which a little feathered mate might satisfy. Once she calms down, around evening time, she gives me "the wave" - the stretch with the wings and a look of apparent adoration. It's almost painfully cute.

I wonder if your Goldie has been a mom in her life. Only my female that had babies makes that noise. She does it when she wants the male to feed her now but softly, when she had babies she did it horribly loudly.

She looks like a lovely budgie, and it's wonderful to see her cage so full of interesting things. I bet she is loving the new surroundings too.
