This is our current setup! Houses 4 pretty birds and random toys. A bath, 2 water sources, cuttle bone and mineral blocks, a hanging feeder, 2 food bowls and a small plate for fresh foods. I would love to get a 5th bird for my husbands birthday. Is there enough room for one more? Or should I upgrade the cage at the same time? -That guy in the bottom right corner is Dexter... he spends a lot of time watching the birds -There are no toys on their play perch right now. They are soaking for a good cleaning!

I would get more perches in there to start with. Ideally the cage would be better the other way round, on it's side so the have more length than height.

This used to be our rat cage. Sadly she passed away of old age. It was there, bigger than their prior cage, so we used it for the guys. I actually took perches out just the other day, because they seem to like flying of and back onto the little platform. I thought I give a bit more room. They have 3 large natural branches in the upper part where all the playing goes on. Kind of hard to see behind the bath and the toys.

That would be a good idea, there's another member on here but for the life of me I can't remember who, and they have joined their cages together so the buds can hop in and out the extra space. That is a good size cage though but an attachment would give them more interesting room to explore. I had to squint to see your budgies up there!

I do have another rat cage, just like this one. My friend was getting rid of it and dropped it off last week. I think I could talk the husband into some cutting and minor welding....

I say keep the small cage separate - you'll need it for quarantine, anyway - and if OH is good at that stuff, by all means make yourself one huge cage. You will definitely have room for another then. But think about it first before cutting and welding; you may want to rig up some sort of opening between the two big cages first ...... the possibilities are endless. skysmum has joined several of her cages together and while it is not all one big space, the birds are able to go from cage to cage.

Your dog. Is it a Doberman? We had trouble with our daughters greyhound trying to get at our budgies but our little mongrel can't reach, her legs are too short she had to be trained to accept the budgies though and not go too near them. Mind she was a rescue and we have no idea about her life before we got her, plus she is a terrier type, sort of, partly Like your cage set up, I have two 'long' or tall ones next to each other so the budgies can hop back and forth between but they're elderly now so don't fly about so much as they used to bit like me really.

Funny you should say milliej that about the greyhound. My daughter does greyhound rescue, she walks them and helps rehabilitate them before they are rehomed. She brought one round yesterday called Dexter and as soon as he saw my conure he lunged at the cage. Luckily he had a muzzle on so couldn't get hold of the bars. I had to the run around throwing covers on all my birds cages and put the African grey away.

Ah....and yet....my daughter won't have a word said about her 'grey' (who is a very old gentleman now) she's had him about 7 years from Greyhound rescue and she doesn't like small dogs so it's a good job (in more ways than one ) that she doesn't live at home.

Quote Sorry we have hijacked your thread vhplac. unquote......Yes....sorry! LOL That is quite alright Don't mind at all! Yes, our Dexter is a Doberman. He has no problems with the guys when they just sit or walk around. He likes to give them tongue baths and does not mind them sitting on him. Now.... when they started flying... different story!!! He tried grabbing them out of mid air! He actually got one, but was very gentle and put him down on the couch. (I almost had a heart attack!) I think he was more concerned about the birds flying and getting hurt. With a little training he is now ok with his friends soaring around him.

I'd love to see a picture of your budgies sitting on your Doberman! And what is a tongue bath?!
