So, I got him about 20 days ago. His cere was blue and the petshop owner told me he is a male. I suppose he know what he was talking about because it wasnt like those petshops that wanna sell you anything just so they get your money. plus he know lots about birds (i tested him, ha!) Anyway. A couple days ago i let him fly in my room and he banged right on to the window. (forgot to pull the curtains). He got shocked cus he immediatelly came to my hands and was shaking. So i put him back in and his cere had some kind of scratch. Now it looks more brownish. I asked in another forum and they told me that it is probably a male. It's not like the normal Female-ish brown colour. Well, they supposed some hormonal imbalance (cancer mostly, but he is less than a year which is highly unlikely). Here are some pictures (before and after). He doesnt show any signs of disease and he is not afraid of me; we bonded really quickly. Oh, And i noticed some new spiky feathers. He could be molting because it looks like he is scratching himself and cleaning up his feathers.. and now he is like this...

It's a cock and the discolouring could be bruising from his impact with the window. He is moulting, you can see the pin feathers coming through. Welcome to the forum. Lovely bird, by the way.

yes, probably from his bash on the glass.. you could also put up strips across the glass, which he will realise not to fly into.. probably also as he is new, he was panic flying as I call it. When I first got Bailey, he ended up behind units, in walls....

Wohoo thanks!! Well now he doesnt go any near the window anymore... I guess he got a good shock. Well I believe that the "bruise" must be fading away.. I can see that the brown part is like only in the center and not at the edges of the cere. So hopefully he will be ok. I will post in a couple of days probably to tell you what happened. Then we will know that a brownish cere could also mean a bruise.. Haha. By the way, because i am new.. when i am all done with this thread, do i close it? or i just leave it open?

Yes, I would say a bruise. My old budgie Misty had that as a baby, his blueish cere went purpley after unfortunate encounters with windows, despite our best efforts, he went into the window several times before realising they were best avoided, he was a very slow learner, bless him, adorable, & such a special creature but he was a bit on the dim side!
