Apple has been admitted to the vet and is staying overnight. I am really scared he is very unwell. I know I posted about being worried about seeing blood through his nails, but this isn't that. He is quite puffed, passing greyish green poop which is soft, and not able to fly very high. He has been quiet and sitting by himself a lot more the past couple of days, not his usual excitable chatty self. Also, the tip of his beak has a kind of bruise colour developing, like a blackish brown. I have seen this on baby birds but adults shouldn't have this. The vet agreed there is something wrong with him. They are going to crop feed, get fluids and vitamins in, take a stool sample and blood sample probably tomorrow when he feels a bit better. I hope this is no more than a simple stomach bug or something easily treated. She said his tail was bobbing and he looked like he was straining as if needing to poop and uncomfortable. He kept shaking / fanning his tail feathers repeatedly. Also when she examined him when she was prodding around and reached nearer his lower abdomen / vent region he squawked. I think it was sore. I am so worried. I've also lost a bit of faith in the avian vets I go to and that doesn't help me stressing. I hope my wee man will be ok.

I hope a short stay in hospital will give Apple the rest he needs and the the answers you need. Only positive thoughts allowed and praying that Apple is back to his mischievous self in no time. Positive vibes heading your way.

The vet rang me this afternoon. Poop sample and blood test showed that Apple has a liver problem and a bacterial infection. They are keeping him in and putting him on medication for his liver and antibiotics. He hasn't been eating so is needing crop feeds. The thing that worried me is that she would like to do another blood test tomorrow or Friday for Chlamydia Psittaci. His white blood cells, blood proteins and the liver thing suggest this might be very possible. The way she was talking about it, she suspects this is what he has. This is worrying, not only because all the other birds will need tested and treated on a 45 day course of medication, but this is transferable to humans and can be quite serious. The vet never told me that, but I know that it is. Worried

I hope she is wrong. How does that even happen? Is it a viral thing?
