Hello everyone! I'm quite new to budgies/parakeets. I just adopted one 2 days ago from PETCO. I'm not terribly new to birds, but haven't owned budgies before. Before my divorce finalized last year I lived with an acre of land and actually raised Serama chickens and owned various other outdoor fowl (turkeys, pheasants, and a peacock) I also had a pair of mini goats! Skip forward a year and I've been living the apartment life (no fun I might add) I tried to sneak 2 chickens in my apartment, but had to rehome them quite quickly because they were so rambunctious being crated. So, wanting a little bird companion I decided to go with a beginners bird that could be held (not finches). My boyfriend who lives with me has a 4 year old son so I took that into account. I have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a rabbit in addition to my new parakeet. I have a lot of animal experience. I've been a vet assistant for seven consecutive years, but the practice I am employed at is small animal and only sees cats/dogs. Ask me anything about cats/dogs and I'll have an answer. Hopefully I'll gain more exotic bird information as well on this forum. Here is my new bird. Kept finding a lot of conflicting sexing info on the internet so not 100% on gender, but someone on FB told me my bird is a female.

Thanks! We might add a second budgie into the house. Mine won't make a sound! Well she played on our couch for a while last night and cuddled on blankets. Had no idea they liked to crawl into small spaces!

Had no idea they liked to crawl into small spaces! If you bring another bird in to your home please make sure you quarantine the new birdy in a ""seperate room away from the lovely budgie you already have for at least 4 weeks to make sure the new birdy is well and healthy...

I got one earlier today. I didn't quarantine since they were living together at the store (and no new birds arrived since adopting Tequila) Tequila is definitely a boy after getting her and total different personalities. New bird is a lot older than him. Her eye is developed and she has a white ceres. She's also regrowing her feathers back after the initial wing clipping. She's also MEAN as a snake since she's never been handled. I took the initiative to trim back her evil pokey beak before introducing her to Tequila. Hopefully she will calm down and be easier to handled. Right now if she's handled she squawks like she might have to kill you and/or draw blood. Tequila was so happy to see a friend though he started singing to her.
