Hi i gave a home to a budgie last autumn and took another in from the RSPCA a few months ago and built an aviary. Earlier this week the RSPCA had a young budgie for rehoming so we also took it in, they said it was 3-6mth male. This morning he died. We noticed after we brought him home he had a bad underbite so we took him the vet and got his bottom beak trimmed. We also noticed his poop was sticking to his vent feathers, so my hubbie used a wet cloth to gently remove the waste. This morning he did go to his seeds and nibble, but did have his eyes closed a lot which was not a good sign. A couple of hours later he was at the bottom of his cage. We have just buried him in a box wrapped in cloth in the Garden. I know no one can tell me why he died, but being relatively new to keeping budgies I am hoping it is not something I've done. As I was putting him in his box, I noticed the long thin chest bone (keel bone?) was very prominent, almost as if it had no skin on it, and I'm wondering if my poor Bobby had starved to death due to his beak being trimmed? Has me getting his beak trimmed killed him? Was the poop sticking to his bottom a sign of illness? He could flutter about but couldn't really fly, was he too young and needed his mother to feed him?

Sounds like he was sick when you got him.
Hope that you didn't introduced him to your other budgies.

I am no where near an expert but the damage may already have been done before you got him? If he was unable to eat due to his under bite he may have already been dealing with starvation issues? I have 2 fluffies and elvis has recently cracked then broke off the tip off his beak. Within a day or 2 he was back to his normal self but his beak did cause him some discomfort. Rip little budgie

He seemed ok when I brought him home, then last couple of days just went downhill

If he was that thin, I am surprised that the vet didn't pick up on it and make some suggestions. The beak problem could surely have already caused him feeding problems ....... he may have needed a special diet before hand to make sure he could sustain himself, and this obviously wasn't happening. You cannot take the blame for the little one's demise.

It is not your fault. Sounds to me like he was sick when you brought him in. It was good of you to try to save the little guy!
