Being as it is the end of June, beginning of July, or EOFY , this is a reminder for all those who spot their birds for mites evry six months. I have been a good girl and did all mine today .......... so impressed I remembered!! High-five to me! So thought it worth putting a reminder out there for those who may have forgotten. Hop to it!

I haven't done mine, ffiscool. He's never had mites even though he goes into the garden, but then he's not on the grass. I think it's just a precaution because prevention is better than cure.

Do you have to do them even if they don't go outside?

It is more important for aviary/outdoor birds than the one or two indoor birds, but having said that it is a good idea to worm any new birds brought into the flock. Also it is not just for external parasites; budgies do get internal parasites (worms) as well. We had a member lose a new budgie to worms a while back, unfortunately.

Me too. What do you mean when you say "spot"? Give them a treatment? I have two 4 month olds that are indoor birds. I would rather go for prevention is better than cure though.

Ivermectin 0.1% is the recommended treatment for scaly mites, and will also treat internal parasites as well. I hav stolen this image from BB's post in this section ........ thanks BB. The brand you find might be different, just be sure the concentration is the same:
