Smudge and I visited our lovely vet this morning; her Lump, (in capitals because it has a mind of it's own,) has regrown to a certain extent but this time is more like a feather cyst, with a keratinase build-up. So between us, Karen and I, we managed to lance the Lump and extract all the gunk and she, Smudge, is home being treated with a small piece of millet. This whole affair is of no real surprise to me as when the gland started to morph in the the first place there where the odd little feather growing from the site. I have just kicked Misty out from the cage , all she wanted to do was hassle the poor girl and she is probably still feeling a bit sore.

The Lump, BB? Originally there was just a small spot that I could barely find without her getting stroppy about being held, as there wasn't the nub that is the gland that you can normally feel. It has been growing back slowly, and last week when I made the appointment, I saw what I think was blood on the top of it. On Tuesday, day before our appointment I had another look and noticed the blood/black mark was gone, but there seemed to be a pustule slightly off to one side to the top of the growth, so kept the appointment. When we looked yesterday in the surgery, I think it was bigger than it had been the day before. I didn't look at her afterwards - she had been held down enough for the time being, I felt, but we didn't have the lump removed this time. I have some liquid to help stop any bleeding if any, but I haven't needed to use it. Karen put some on when she had finished ...... I looked it up and it is a strong anti-bacterial, anti-fungal + clotting aid. So I am hoping that this wonderful magic potion will do the trick, but I am expecting to have to return later I hope, rather than sooner, as this is basically like a feather cyst, with or without the feather, but a keratinase cyst all the same. That gland of hers is going to be the bane of her life.

Glad she's okay. Despite having to get repeat treatments, at least it's a cyst and not a malignant growth. She's in good hands.

Agree - as long as she has treatment for it AND it is not causing her any troubles then all's well and good. I realise you have probably mentioned it before but I cant remember, how old is she now Hezz?

She is about 4 and a half, Sam, so not old but not a 'spring chicken', either. I got my in-house nurse, AKA OH, to have a look at the wound last night, to check whether I needed to apply any magic potion, but the verdict was "it's not pretty, but it's nicely pink, not angry-red. It's all good".

Awww bless the Smudge - she hasn't got her half-moon spectacles yet then Glad things are seeming to heal quickly that is always a good sign that mum and nurse is giving her all the love and care she needs

Sam, it is me with the almost-half moon spectacles. Moogie, Smudgie would say thank you but for two things: one, she is in bed asleep, and two, she says " you may kiss the tum, but that is enough. Don't push it. "
