That is great news Hezz. Can Spyro stand on the perch on the cage floor? Yes he can. He has had the perch the whole time; I think it gives his good foot a rest from being stretched out flat, but prevents the splinted leg from hanging which is what the vet didn't want to happen, that's why he is restricted to the floor, poor boy.

That's brilliant news. Poor old hop-a-long. He'll be glad when it all comes off. Are you sure it's Spyro that doesn't like the pink, or is it your pink aversion?

Tell Spyro that real men can wear pink I tried, Sarah, but I think it is less the colour and more that it is new and he needs to break it in to fit him, just as he did the other. He gave the first one a bad time for the first day or two as well, then left it alone. One of the vet nurses was telling me she was trying to blow his feathers out of the way while the plaster was being put on.

Ah she was very sweet, bless her. I'm sure Spyro will accept it soon, just like before

Millet grass treats are in order me thinks Millet and oats, Sam. Plus lots of lovely fresh grass and all the other ordinary "stuff" Lots of lovely healthy poo this morning and lots of lovely empty oats husks. Yay!! But I am concerned about the amount of grief he is giving the plaster. It looks like there is a piece of micropore over part of the plaster - I wonder if it was put there to hold the plaster while it set - and it is this that he has barely left alone. I am going to have to wait for an extra pair of hands to come home to see if I can't neaten it up now that he has started picking at it. Just talked to the surgery; it is micropore around the plaster, but it isn't actual plaster, so not as hard as the plaster he has last week. So I am waiting for a call back to see what we can do. The bandage/plaster may unravel if he succeeds in removing the micropore. Ahhhhhhh!

If there is something to be picked, a budgie will find it, and Spyro it seems is no different Hezz, I see that you have been feeding him OATS, can I ask what kind of oats you give, and if you give them on their own or mixed in with his seed.

It's like dealing with a kiddie isn't it? Telling them not to touch it (well) you might as well just tell them to strip the whole thing off! Reminds me of a story my OH told me about - when he was a kid he broke his arm and he was fitted with plaster (from wrist to elbow) to which he decided to use at school as a rounders bat After the second time of returning to hospital (for re-plastering) they plastered him up near to the shoulder to stop him doing it! Anyways, so so glad Spyro it doing lots of eating and healthy poops it can only be up from here now

Real oats, as opposed to groats which I think a lot of your seed mixes have; groats being any one of oat, wheat, or rye. From wiki: Groats, are the hulled kernels of various cereal grains such as oat, wheat, and rye.
Oat (Avena sativa) is a species of cereal grain grown for its seedConfusing, isn't it? I think I have leant something as well.

To update the plaster/micropore problem, I had a call back and besides going in and getting an elizabethan collar fitted, maybe more stress for the little fella, we opted for me trying to reapply the micropore in case he did manage to start pulling at the bandage. So with myself and my trusty off-sider, Drew, we managed to relieve him of the old and reapply some new and that seemed to have worked - he seems much more comfortable since. The problem was hat some of the stuff he had nibbled at was up under his wing so must have been irritating both his leg and under his wing. Hopefully he will leave this lot alone a bit more and we can all settle down.
