I had no idea there was this much interest. I am really looking forward to reading all the threads. So here is our first and we would love some insight on sex, mutation, etc. This is truly fascinating.

Your not kidding Suesbird. You always want to have a peek to see what's going on. Every time my phone bleeps, OH will say "that'll be the budgie forum" hehe, he's usually right too.

What is nice is that people are so passionate about our little friends and you can openly say how much you love them without being laughed at and how understanding and helpful everyone is when there is a problem.
Your baby is beautiful, mine is a little so and so who sole aim is to try new things, go new places and make as much noise as he can if I am ignoring him or not in the room!
Enjoy, sue

Love this place. When I mention the forum, no one understands why I would be on one about a budgie....

My children don't understand how much fun you have and how time consuming they can be. Mmmmm perhaps I am besotted a little too much!

Aren't we all, lol
Thing is, I can see how people don't understand. BUT whatever you love, people should respect that. I can't imagine loving say, a snake, but if someone does, then it's important to them etc

Yes, he is a boy. Are you going to let his wings grow back?

We are not sure. We just got him yesterday. He is pretty quiet at the moment, that is normal, right? My wife put her hand in to move the perch yesterday and he hopped right on to her hand. We were pleasantly surprised.
I am honestly amazed at the amount of information that is available. Overwhelming at times because we really don;t know what to expect. That is why I jumped on here because you all seem to truly love doing this and have a wealth of knowledge.

Hi there. What's his name?
Read through the "stickies" at the start of each section you're interested in. There's heaps of info in there for new budgies.
Clean water and water containers, and clean food is the most important to begin with. Get him some natural branch perches in varied diameters as soon as you're able. It's much better for their feet. And start introducing fresh veggies now. It's easier to get them eating fresh food when they are young.
Also, handy hint, depending on your cage, most of us put their newspapers on top of the bottom grate. It makes it easier to keep the cage clean. You can put say 7 layers, and just roll up the dirty one and remove.
