It is the cere we are looking at. I do believe it is newish. It is not on earlier photographs. I only noticed this this morning. What he does do is give a small bell one hell of a whack occasionally. Your diagnosis will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I'll start by removing the bell and keep a very close eye. Thank you.

Apart from a very pretty budgie, I'd say keep an eye on it. My buds bash bells etc but they don't have dents, they usually use the lower part of the beak to bash, not the cere.

I would have expected him to use the beak rather than the cere, but the rate and force he used made me think of the rebound. It was suspended from the top of the cage but he could hit it and it in turn would hit the cage bars. I have now taken it out and will watch very closely. Apart from the tiny marks he appears to have a mark running top to bottom of the cere. It does look as though he has hit it. Thank you Starlingqueen.

Do you have Ivermectin in case? I did Bailey early on as we weren't sure re the staining above his cere etc. so was precautionary

What would I do about that? He does have a tendency to rub his beak against the bars, or rather between two bars.

Dpn't think it's mites. Rub a little edible oil on your finger and rub a little on his beak and cere. It might just be a bit dry.
