I have just tried the URL and would seem that the tinypic servers are having a problem.

It seems I am getting known as a techno, I'll stop short of saying 'geek'.

I don't know what vet saw. I don't see anything wrong, except "those days" of the month.

Good luck for tomorrow JennyB, hope Merry is loads better now. Thanks. He said he thinks they've got a respiratory problem so we've got the same baytril 3ml twice a day. He said they wouldn't really get the right dose in water so he's given me syringes to give them into their beaks. I haven't tried to hold them yet so that will be a challenge. I'm going to try what he did and have my hand next to them have someone turn out the light so they keep still which might hopefully make it easier. I know I don't want to get them too stressed and will project calmness myself. If it really doesn't go well ill do what starrymist said and see if they'll lick the dose straight off a lettuce leaf. If fact it'd make sense to start with the method wouldn't it. I'll keep you updated and how that goes and any improvement they hopefully make. He said they could've caught it from me which of course made me feel terrible! I've felt a bit run down onto of my usual ME symptoms but it's hard to know if it's germs or just over doing things. Rob said he's feeling like he's got a cold coming. Did your vet suggest how Lacey might've caught it? Please let let me know how Lacey gets on. The main symptoms mine show are sounding like they have a snotty nose and a bit of tail bobbing with heavier breathing when they're trying to sleep. I did bring up megabacteria and he said no they've have to be being sick and a lot of the time which M&P aren't. Merry has lost 3g in weight but he said that's okay if he doesn't lose more and little pippin had put on some. He does look bigger in the chest than Merry. He was happy that they're now on trill (after breeders mix ran out) because it gives them everything they need. He said Merry was moulting. I said he's lost about the same amount of feathers each week since I brought them home in May. Although thinking about it it probably is less now. For every 10 feathers he loses pippin will lose 1. The vet said because of artificial lights on the home it gives them longer light than in the wild which means they'll moult more. He said I should cover them in a black out blanket. (Such a same hagen have stopped selling their own to fit the cage) and let them have 12 hours of light in the summer and 8 in the winter. At the moment they're covered in a sheet but only the top half of their cage (it's a double height hagen). Shall I cover the whole cage with a sheet and a heavy towel for darkness? I don't want it getting too stuffy under there. I take a lot of comfort in being a member of this forum. (Thank you to starrymist). Xx

Well your vet sounds really good, and don't blame yourself IF they even caught it from you. Others will be able to advise on the covering up etc
Re meds, try the lettuce but when I had to give Bailey some from a syringe, I made a game out of it. I had the empty one on my lap. I kept touching it, tapping it. He came to play, picking it up in his mouth So I then put the meds in. He got most of it that way.
Good luck

I hope that sorts them both out then JennyB. 3mls of baytril twice a day seems quite a lot to me, but your vet knows best. Vet said to me to put 1ml in 10mls water so on ratio Lacey is getting hardly any at all! Especially as she is not drinking much anyway, little monkey. She doesn't have a runny nose or problems breathing, it was just that she was vomiting, but only twice, 6 or 8 weeks apart. I really don't know what her problem is, she ate LOADS of grit this morning. Anyway, fingers crossed for all of us aye??

Fingers crossed for all budgies under the weather. Shirls, it is most likely that the concentration of the relative doses of baytril are decidedly different to each other, they will have been diluted down in the surgery, hence the differing amounts for each bird to be prescribed by the different vets.

Of course, I didn't think of that. My vet didn't dilute the baytril as I have to mix it myself. Perhaps Jennyb has hers diluted already.

I mentioned the dose difference to rob and while I did I just noticed the bottle of baytril is a 10ml so only 3 doses of 3 ml then I noticed the decimal point saying 0.03ml twice a day. No wonder it's literally a drop in the syringe. We tried it first on a lettuce leaf but they were more intent on shredding it. Then I dropped it on my finger and added 4 tiny grains of millet so they took it up with that. Each hour this afternoon I've been showing them the syringe to get them used to it. Merry was trying to bite it but pippin didn't like it at all. I then had the whizzy idea of getting Merry to bite it then reward him with a peak of millet then covered the millet and said tap and gave him the millet when he bit it again. This seemed to work (it was empty) and soon pippin wanted to join in. He actually did explore the syringe this time as his big brother had been doing. I'm hoping it wasn't a fluke and that it will work for the next dose...
Has Lacey been sick again? I hope not.
