Hello!
I'm Pam from SW Florida and I have 11 budgies and one .5 budgie. My husband and I just finished building a large aviary for them. He said they were too loud to stay indoors longer lol.
They were noisy and I have to admit I enjoy sitting on the deck watching them flitter around more than I liked sitting on the floor in front of their big flight cage. They seem much happier in their aviary.
I also have another aviary which houses 11 parakeets and about 15 cockatiels. In the house we have a mustache parakeet and a sun conure and occasionally the two green quakers who are currently in my budgie aviary while my daughter is away..Quakers are her birds.
I love my English budgies! The ages are mixed from around 1 year to 4months, some have paired off and I hope to have a few pair breed for me. English budgies are impossible to find in my area and I traveled hours to get these guys 1 and 2 at a time to build my flock. My favorite is the .5 who is named Gris. She's one of my oldest and I found her on craigslist as a very young bird. She's testy and is often perched alone, but she will become highly aggressive to other birds who get near her when she's in a mood. She loves Kermit (2nd oldest) but he doesn't feel the same. I recently got her a boyfriend (I hope) who is mature and olive since she's shown a preference for green males.

I love your aviary. I have two boys who are 6 months old now when they're both chirping at full volume I call it they're aviary noise because you'd be forgiven for thinking there was more than 2 so I imagine 11 would be fairly noisy and absolutely no hope of watching the tv. We resorted to subtitles almost immediately! I could and have watched them for hours and love their bird song.

Welcome and I luv my budgies too. I have three girls and a boy and three chics. I want a large aviary but as I live in wv I am afraid outside will be too cold in the winter! I told my hubby I must have a large aviary cage in the future as I want to breed.

Thank you all for the welcome! I have a bit of work left to do in the aviary, adding some more toys fish tail palms. Unfortunately I bought out the only supplier I could find The budgies/tiels and keets absolutely love to shred the things and their lifespans has only been running a week with the budgies. I think they are eating it. But honestly at 4$ a pot it's probably less expensive than other shredable toys lol.

Hello and welcome. .......... but I have to point out that having two nest boxes in that small aviary, you are setting the budgies up to fight over them. You should really do one of three things: remove both and they won't feel the urge to breed; separate the pairs you are wanting to breed with into a breeding cage when they are in breeding condition or provide enough nest boxes plus one for all the hens and be prepared for the possible dramas associated with colony breeding. Sorry to be the ogre of the piece, but I would prefer to know if I had made a blue, rather than find out the hard way which might be the death of a hen or two.

No worries Hezz, I completely agree with you. The aviary was just finished on Tuesday and I had planned on more nest boxes. Rather than my husband build them I was going to pick some up on Thursday in exchange for perch stand/gyms I build for a pet shop. Unfortunately they had only two at the time and since I live about 50 miles away from the hardware store, we will be picking up the wood to build many more boxes asap.
I did pull Gris and her current favorite male to put in a breeding cage with a nest box. She is very very ready to breed. The other females are fairly young and only one shows any interest in a male right now.

Hens should be at least 12 months old before being allowed to breed for the first time, in case you didn't know.
