Sorry in a bit of a rush here so hope I explain myself well! Mischief's behaviour is changing now with her 'aging' and I wondered if/what I can do or give her to give her a 'boost'? Or to help make the winter of her days as comfortable as possible (remembering that Sid is always around and can be annoying at times ) Any thoughts or help will be much appreciated....she's ok at present....just I can see the aging process taking it's toll oh and her poop is very runny just lately! Ah me.....I feel sad...she is such a joy really! Much quieter and more well behaved than Sid Thanks all, God bless

Oh dear Milliej, this ageing thing is sad for us all. I think if you keep on loving Mischief as you are then it will be the best thing. Giving her a boost may sound like meaning well, but maybe something to keep her comfortable could be better. Doctors and the like are always trying to give me a boost by telling me to exercise more, do this, do that. The thing is I don't want it like that. I am by no means ready for the scrap heap and I am fairly capable of doing most things. I just need my friends around me when I want them there, a comfy pair of slippers and chair to sit in. Maybe Sid seems annoying to you, but maybe not to Mischief. I hope you can understand what I mean by all this. I hope I am making sense.

Getting older is difficult. I know that from experience. Mischief will adapt because I know you will make sure she is always comfortable and well loved.

Thank you both, yes I understand what you mean OP yesterday Mischief fell off her perch (it's usually Sid who does this!) but when she picked herself up and was back sitting next to Sid, he started his 'bobbing' and chirping....I was wondering if he was saying 'you ok' - he then proceeded to start 'feeding' (or kissing!) her ....sweet!

Really all you can do is monitor her; make sure she isn't struggling too much to get to things, but you must be aware of trying to do too much for her, which will only age her more quickly as you intervene in what she is still capable of doing. So ...... don't make her life too easy, but when you see there are things she is struggling with, find ways around without compromising her independence too much.

She tried to have a bath today haven't seen that for a long time but....as usual Sid pushed her out the way! Hen pecked...not in my budgie house....he's definitely 'the boss' or thinks he is until she gets hold of his tail I gave them both a shower with their special 'spray' instead!

Ahhh bless her, how old is she again millie. Two of mine are 9 and jo is 13. Jo has stiff legs bless him and Freddy has one poorly leg. I use the wooden blocks that you can get in the rodent section of pestathome, they love resting on those and it takes the weight off their little pins. This is one, they stretch their legs right out behind them and are just belly boarding .

I also have wooden 'resting' blocks for them, but sadly Sid is a bit of a pest at times, I don't know what will happen when/if she goes first as I think she's more of a surrogate mom than wife! Mischief is about 9, Sid is 7 1/2.

Ahh i see . As you prob know i had to take Jo away from the others they were knocking him about all over the place, he spent most of the time cowering near the floor, he now has Teddy in with him most of time and especially at night because Chilli can be a bit bad and pick on Ted if they are cage bound. So they get their pipes and slippers out in the eve's .

I know this was only a typo, but I couldn't help thinking maybe a little bit of a Freudian slip there as well??? milliej, I think I mentioned before that I feel anything going into double figures is doing well. Hopefully Mischief's twilight years are still ahead of her.

Thank you all again for encouraging words and help! Silly me been feeling my age too so that probably didn't help, thinking the whole family is on a downward slope!!! I have been thinking about trying Mischief with a little boiled egg (mashed!) to see how she goes and will keep Sid in the other cage at certain times so she can get some rest. Let's see if it works because they are so used to being together! I also intend to rummage amongst my various budgie odds and ends to make her a little 'hideaway' like the hamster swing thing. Feeling much more positive now even though Mischief's the same!

Oh! Chin up Milliej, my motto is keep smiling. It won't make me any younger, but people wonder what I'm smiling about. There are times when one feels down and downright poorly, something's aching more than it did yesterday. Sid and Mischief will be taking there strength from the strength you give. Time to put a brave face on, we are always here if you want to offload a bit.

A quick question....one leads to another! I'm off out to church soon....but.....I gave Mischief some mashed boiled egg stuck to a tiny piece of broccoli as I couldn't think of another way to get her to eat it. Eat it she did bless but then I thought, how much do I give, how often and hope I didn't give her too much (although I don't think so) . Thanks again for your help!
