So I mentioned that Munchy had a really bad case of the prickly pinnies. They're right on top of his head where he can't reach them and, understandably, he's not even letting me touch his cheeks because of the amount of prickles, so I was wondering if there was something I could put onto them to soften them and help the waxy coat come off? They look really sore.
Also, note to self, must give him some egg tomorrow.

One of my boys, Max, has some new pinnies coming through. I gave them a good misting this morning, I always feel that that helps mine.

Munchy will bathe occasionally, but never really gets his head wet. He loathes being misted, and it would be awkward to get an opportunity to do it as I'm out most of the day (and he likes to jump out of the cage before we can shut him in) but that's probably better than catching him. Earlier I caught him up and wet the really bad part of his head, just to try to do something to help. It was too late to completely soak him. I really need to get a spray bottle that hasn't had disinfectant in it :/

You do! Misting him is about the only way you can help. Trying to put anything on him is only going to cause more problems and this is something he will get over; you know that. Put your learning into practice and don't let your emotions over-ride your common sense.

True, Hezz, I just wanted to know if there was anything more I could do to help.
Currently hard boiling an egg and I think I'll put him back on just old Trill so that he doesn't have to spend half an hour rummaging through his bowl fit the millet and canary seeds.
Now to work out where to find an empty spray bottle whilst I actually need one. The only times I've misted him were with the hose. I might resort to that if the weather stays clear.

Fortune smiles. Nan was able to tell me where an old plant mister was from when she had house plants, a long time ago. I washed it out thoroughly and Munchy is now soaking wet, glaring at me, and eating egg.

I won't see him until tomorrow morning so he should be over it by then.
Oh, I forgot to mention the other halfof the egg to my grandparents. Do you think it will be safe for Munchy to eat tomorrow? I'm wary of eggs.
Yeah, he makes be feel bad, because I can see how stressed being misted makes him, but it has to be done, like holding him to check him or trim his claws, though I can usually calm him a bit then by winking at him.

If you are not sure, throw it away. Half an egg isn't worth the worry of a sick bird.

I got rid of it!
His feathers are looking much better already. I tried to encourage him to bath earlier so that I wouldn't have to spray him, but he drank loads and got his feet wet and that was it, so I've just soaked him. I think I should swap the food and water bowls around because I'm wondering if he's not drinking enough normally or if there's still and instinct to drink as much as possible when running water is sighted.
His claws need trimming as well, but I think that can wait until the weekend. I'd prefer to avoid stressing him too much in one go.

He's already looking better. He still has a lot of pins but they're not so clustered now.
Tried to trim his long claws yesterday morning and the dopey sausage wrenched his foot away right as I was cutting, resulting in a bleeding claw. Fortunately I have a pot of cornflour which I always have open and ready.
You can tell I haven't been catching him lately, because it took ages to round him up. I'm working on getting him to trust my hands properly, again, and then will add catching him to the routine.
It's obvious I'm not around much. He's such a feral beast!
