My little man is sick and I'm really worried about him. I noticed he was fluffed up last night, but all the birds are a bit poofier when it's cold. However I questioned it, and in the morning my suspicions were confirmed. Gilbert was, in fact, fluffed up and lethargic. Besides that he seems ok, he ate a little bit this morning, but then I had to go to school so I don't know what he drank today. He's flying as normal, but not as often, and when he isn't flying, he's just sitting, sleeping and looking fluffed up. When Georgia was sick like this, I gave her powerade and black tea through a syringe and she was much better the next morning and was back to normal very quickly, so I gave Gilbert some powerade a minute ago to boost his glucose levels. What else should I do? I really can't lose another bud so close to the others.

I'm so sorry Nicola that your little bird is sick, sorry too that I'm not qualified to help you. Have you am avian vet near you that you could take him to? I hope he gets better soon.

Just remember the basics Nicola, every time you suspect illness. Straight away give extra energy boost such as powerade, black tea, and extra warmth. Have you got a hospital cage where you can separate Gilbert and give him some extra warmth? You can use a desk lamp, or wrap a hot water bottle on the cage bottom and cover the cage to keep the heat in.

Vetafarm has a couple of products which it might help to keep in the cupboard. These are the links below. Spark Liquid: vetafarm.com.au/product/spark-liquid/Poly Aid Plus: vetafarm.com.au/product/poly-aid-plus/Also if you wanted to give it a try, when Blue was getting very ill, I did get him to drink some vegemite dissolved in warm water. Have the birds been wormed recently, Nicola? Every six months is recommended, and is much more important with an outside aviary. Hope Gilbert is feeling better.

I'm sorry to say that Gilbert passed on yesterday. I gave him powerade and black tea prior to reading the comments here, and he was put inside in his own cage. But he stayed one night, and the next he was worse. Sometime during the day he passed away. Thank you for everyone's help here xx
