....in the budgie world unfortunately. No ones sick, more like minorly injured. I went down to the aviary this evening and saw Daisy bent over in a corner on top of their hollow log they love to go in and out of.. At first I thought something had happened to her, but then we realised that she was attacking someone. I got in the aviary and it turned out Daisy was attacking Poppi. I thought maybe there was an egg in the log and Daisy was defensive, as she had been very interested around the log lately, but nothing was in there. I separated the two, but Poppi has a small injury on her cere that was bleeding and on the bottom of her foot that was also bleeding. Nothing major, as she is acting like nothing happened. Now Poppi has been put in a separate cage as Daisy kept going for her. We removed the log but Daisy is still acting strange. Hopefully a night separated will give Daisy time to calm down. She was just so worked up over the log that she lashed out at anyone who took interest. Too much drama for me in one night

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe I have seen that in the wild they nest in hollows in trees. Thus they will defend with gusto their nest. So it may have been poppi doing the defending.

Yes they do nest in hollow logs in the wild, however this log has been in there for 2 years now and we've never had any trouble my only thought it that these two hens are 1 year 9 months and 2 years 6 months and are in breeding condition, and as it is spring, they might be looking for a nest. But the log is out now and will not be returning, as if we didn't catch them when we did, things may not have been so good for Poppi. In regard to Poppi doing the defending, that could have been the case, although Daisy had been showing more interest in the log area than Poppi. Either way, Daisy definitely had the upper hand

Good girl. Glad you removed that log; there was going to be trouble sooner or later. Poor girls, you have to feel for them, but I know what you mean by dramas. I have just locked Misty in - she has been giving Mango far tooo much attention and basically just rode her to the ground this minute. And Mango is just a kid, she's 1 in about 10 days' time, but only wants to play and explore and get into mischief, but wants the attention ..... typical teen. Ooooops! Sorry Nic! I am sure you are not like that ........
