Rest in Peace, sweet handsome Minty. Keep his cute face and happy song close to your heart, ad he will be with you forever. The most difficult decisions are made with the greatest love. Minty had a wonderful, long life, filled with your love and good care. Hugs to you, Becca. I am so sorry for your loss.

Well I have tears running down my face. So so sorry little Minty has gone to sleep. We had to make the same decision for our dog Rusty. It really is heartbreaking. The house feels so still without their presence. I have ME and I'm more or less housebound. I've had our two boys for only five months and they have already lightened my life and brought my great comfort. After ten long years with Minty is must be very hard. Sending lots of love xx

That is so sad. I too am crying, for you and with you Minty was a great age and beautiful. You were obviously a great mum for him to have reached 10. These little birds fill our lives
RIP minty

Oh, Becca, I was afraid of this. You have made the only choice you could if he had gone down hill in that short time, and did everything it was possible to do for him. I can't imagine how empty the house seems now without his beautiful company and delightful chirping to fill the void. My heart goes out to you. Rest in Peace, Minty. You will be sharing some beautiful company up there in budgie-heaven.

Its awful isn't it, a house isn't the same without a little creature in it. I went 8 months without a dog said i couldn't keep going through the heartache of loosing them but coming home from work to an empty house was just too much in the end and along came Tilly my JRT and my buds are now indoors for a time, the house is alive again. I know its too raw now but maybe in time you could bring a new little bud into your home, they make a huge difference to our lives .

Thank you everyone so much for all of your lovely messages - I'm glad I could share a bit of Minty with you all, he really did bring so much joy to my life I kept him wrapped in the flannel with his head poking out and he slept by me all night, our dog Ruby hasn't left his side either, she obviously knows he has gone. JennyB I was so surprised to read you have ME - I have it too! I became ill when I was 12 but got Minty for my 16th Birthday, and he died just before my 26th (this Friday), so he really was a very special bird to me. I'm so sorry to read you have ME too though, I know just how debilitating it is but also isolating and lonely too, animals bring such joy. <3 xxx

Becca, I'm another MEer! Severe for a long time. I was ill for all the years I had my previous budgie Misty (in my profile pic) & losing him, even though he was very, very old was the hardest thing ever, he was my daily companion who'd sit on me when I stuck in bed & keep me company. He was the most loyal companion ever & always made things 'ok'. I got another 1 & he's so different but brings just as much joy to me. I actually didn't want to get Misty when our 1st budgie died, I didn't want to 'replace' him but actually it was the best thing we could've done. They're all so different they can't be replaced. And it was the same when misty passed away, getting Brodie has been another very different experience but equally as joyous & he too helps me through my day Misty is still a big part of my life, I have photos everywhere of him. We wrapped him in some lovely material & buried him, my mum chose a lovely plant to go on top & in the summer when I was having a good day I went & lay next to him. Thinking of you x Ps did you once do a media article or something about your budgie? Vaguely I seem to remember hearing of an MEer with a budgie called Minty, I remember cos the name's so similar to Misty x

Thanks so much for all of your kind replies <3 I hope this gets easier because it's awful him not being here already. He was the best companion to me as I'm unwell and spend a lot of time in bed, it just feels so empty here without him. You are right! Such a small creature can be such a wonderful companion. When I lost my first budgie kiki a male who I had 9 1/2 years (he came up from Berkshire to Cumbria with us when we moved) I just couldn't bring myself to part with him...my husband thought I'd lost the plot! I kept him in a little plastic container for days....until he started to smell....I know.....crazy....I kept looking at him and bursting into tears but eventually had to put him to 'rest'. It's awful and amazing how they create a big hole in our hearts.....I do hope you feel able to have another at some stage, in the meantime...remember the fun and good he brought into your life (and heart) and you his! God bless.

I really hope you have better days to be able to admire Misty's plant and take comfort he's still close to you - I haven't buried Minty yet, my Mum will bury him for me but I don't really like the thought of him rotting I know it is part of life but still feels sad just the thought. I don't think I did no, not as far as I can remember?! Would be bizarre if there's another ME sufferer out there who had another Minty! Such a small world Thank you for your kind words xx

God bless. Bless you Millie - I know what you mean, my family come in to see me and next to me is Minty wrapped in a flannel even though we know they're not really there you still feel so much love for their little shells. Minty never really liked being held so it has been so nice to hold him in my hands and stroke his head & cere (both of which he would've been mad about hehe). <3 It is so very quiet without him and I miss him so much already and it's only been 24 hours. I will definitely be getting another one when the time feels right. I don't want Minty to think I would be replacing him though, it just feels very lonely without him. I would love to adopt one but really can't seem to find anywhere that have budgies that need homes - does anyone know of anywhere that rehomes budgies for future reference? (feel bad even asking this question so soon!) Thanks again for all of your replies it really has meant a lot during a difficult time <3

Becca, I think Minty would want you to find another budgie to share your love and good care. His legacy to you is your love of these little guys who need your help. You will know when the time is right.

No one who has had and lost a budgie or two would ever think that you could replace Minty with another ........ they are all so very different in personalities. Whoever you invite into your home next will show you a different part of budgies' natures, even if you did want to experience the same connection that you had with Minty. It is actually something to be aware of; don't go into a budgie relationship expecting the same. They really are a bit like a box of chocolates, in the words of Forrest Gump.
