I am so happy that Cyrus is not suffering from some terrible ailment. I have never heard of his condition, but I am no expert, either. Once you regain his trust, you will be able to help him with his double feathers. I guess I should be calling Cyrus "her" instead of "him" now, right?

None of those photos are good enough to make a call on Cyrus' gender, but I have not heard of this condition either. Not so surprising, though; I can't imagine it is a regular thing to come across. As for holding him/her ....... that is something you will need to work on. I have a method of catching up all mine on a regular basis so they don't get the frights when the time comes where they are needing help ....... in the form of meds, help with an errant feather, or worst case when they need to be treated by a vet. I find it best to do this from inside the cage - get them used to being caught up from inside the cage as soon as possible.

Someone else just told me that he in fact is a male and is of 'recessive peid' mutation, where males have pink ceres like that. So i'm not 100% sure, but I feel as if he's a boy, just I've never had a female that was as loud and playful as him, plus he got his old girlfriend preggo, and 'topped' his 'side-boyfriend', I'll just consider him that
So you're saying if I grab him from inside the cage regularly he'll become less fearful of it? He used to be very tame, I used to be able to grab him all the time before, I just havn't been able to give them as much attention as I used to which is why I think he's changed now

I prefer to use the term "contain" rather than "grab". Grab has connotations of fright, harsh handling, being eyed up for a meal. Have a look at the video at the very beginning of this thread, this is how I get my budgies into my hand. I now have five who quite happily will do this, pretty much every time. budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/7410/easy-catching-hold-budgieIf you want a definitive answer to whether Cyrus is male or female, some close up photos of the cere, no flash, natural light will help. Post them in the Gender section.

Hehe okay, I mean hold. I can hold him in my hand like that for a moment, but when I try inspecting his feathers or blowing on them he runs away, and he doesn't let me hold him upside down. I've been trying to hang out with him more lately, hopefully that will ease him into trusting me again.. I just wanna pick out the feathers that are bothering him, I wish he'd understand that
