Just had a night fright dilemma. Because I took Apple to the vet in Coconuts cage, I put her to bed with Pippin, who normally shares with Apple. I had hoped this would be okay but no, just got woken by crashing and flapping. The two of them all over the place. They must have spooked each other. Pippin escaped onto the clothes dryer and stood like a zombie, refusing to move. We had to fish out a really old cage which was the mother in laws from about 30 years ago! So now Coconut is in that on her swing, and Pippin eventually back in his own. Alarm due to go off in 5 and a half hours time for work, and trust it to be the day I have that 3 hour trek I was supposed to do last week Coffee, coffee and more coffee will be needed I think

The vet rang me this afternoon on Apples progress and results of his blood tests. The poor mite will be in until Friday at least, maybe over the weekend too. His liver function is really causing him problems. His protein reading was at 1, which is very bad, too low. He isn't eating. His blood cell count is irregular and the fat content in his blood is off the scale. Like a human with really bad high cholesterol. He is that clogged up that his organs aren't working as well as they should, and the liver isn't detoxifying the way it should. He's getting a new medicine which will target the fat in his blood and break it down then flush it out the system. He has never had that before, and thinking now, really he should have. He's also getting tons of other medicines and treatments to help him get back on his feet. The information was a bit overwhelming and I never wrote it down so can't even remember it all Today he got all his tests and blood, tomorrow is a rest day for him, getting fed and meds and getting strength up. The vet will ring me back tomorrow again. She seemed confident that with the right treatment, long term medicines to control the liver and regular health checks that he would do ok. Fingers crossed for my wee man I'm so worried.

Poor wee guy, he is certainly having a hard time. But the vet has said that with the proper meds he should be ok lemonade, take comfort in that. I know you and the rest of the flock will be missing him, it is so hard to be parted from them. I'm sure he'll be fine once they get him stabilized and he starts to build his strength up. I hope your trip and the long drive went ok today. Love and hugs to little Apple xx

It certainly sounds like Apple is in very good hands; you are a lucky girl. I am happy for you both that the vet seems to think this can be managed with due attention, that has to be a good feeling. Take care, both of you. xx Edit: Ask her about hepatosyl, and the use of herbal liver cleansers such as milk thistle and dandelion.

Do you have a record function on your phone? Maybe it's worthwhile recording the vet consult so you can play it back when you're not so stressed at all the bad news that you're being given.
When Boo had a really complex and rolling series of issues, it was hard to take everything in at once.

I agree that Apple is in good hands. Poor little guy. He deserves his day of rest tomorrow, and so do you, Lemonade. Hugs to you both.

What a relief it must be to have some answers along with treatments as well. I'm so pleased for little Apple in that sense. I do hope he responds well and is back with his flock asap.

Apple update - he made no improvement until today, apparently he is a bit brighter and chirpier today. I haven't seen him since I took him in on Monday but the vet rang with another update. He isn't eating though, he is pretending to eat but isn't. He isn't allowed home until at least next Tuesday, even then he may not get home. It all depends if the medication works and he shows improvement and actually eats on his own Pippin misses him

Poor little Apple, I hope he continues to improve and it's not too long before he starts eating.
