Hello everyone: Budgies have been a part of my life for the past 40+ years. I now adopt abandoned budgies from the local animal shelter (and other small animals as well). At the moment I have 5 budgies but usually my flock consists of 6 birds. Their names are Snowy, Riley, Peppy, Skylar and Lilly. We built a dedicated bird room onto our house so that they can spend most of their time out and about. They are such delightful members of our household; however, when they become ill, I struggle with deciding what I should do/not do especially when weighing the bird's quality of life to quantity of life. I am very happy to have found this forum. Looking forward to sharing experiences with you all.

Hi yasmin, welcome to the forum, it's nice to have you join us. This is a great place to just come along and have a chat about our favourite little animal, we're all nuts about our budgies on here

Yasmin, I was thinking just a few hours ago about the programme 'Marvellous', about a chap with some form of Aspergers Syndrome who made a great success of his life and won people over wherever he went. He worked for a time at Stoke City FC. Did you see it?
He had made part of his living room into an aviary. I'm interested that you turned a room into a place where your budgies can roam free. Could you post a picture, possibly? No probs if not. I'd quite understand if you didn't want to be too revealing.

Thank you all for your warm welcome. Chiprockskip: I am totally with you re: "Where there's life there's hope". Must have been awful losing 5 last year – my heart goes out to you. budgiebudgie: I would love to see "Marvellous"! Our bird room looks like an ordinary room except that the ceiling is vaulted, the floors are tile, there's a lamp that's been half chewed up by the birds, there are a few plants that are non-toxic for them, a couple of activity centres (including a Calico/Sylvanian families house that they love to go into and evict the inhabitants of), and lots of seed hulls and feathers on the floor and everywhere. I will need my husband's help to post a picture (I am technologically challenged).

I forgot to add, what a great thing you are doing. I would love to get involved with something like that - our rescue centres don't seem to do birds. Also my OH keeps telling me you can't take on every bird that doesn't have a home!
