My budgie is 8 weeks old he has been great, i have had him 2 weeks and already he's flyin to my hand in the cage for seed, and plays at the bottom of the cage with a ball, howeverI am a bit worried now, I've noticed 2day his poos a bit green, all day he's been playing with his ball around the bottom of the cage but tonite he's been fluffed up on the perch n seems very tired and closes his eyes, he is eating millet as i was told to feed him on because he is still young, and has a bit of trill, which i was also told he could have, he is definately not in a draft or near a door or window, i hope he's okay. I have been told to make sure his water and food are changed daily, this i have been doing and there has been nothing in his water and i change it every morning and also he has had trill now for 3 weeks, but these last few days he seems to be eating more of it as he is now more confident jumping down for it, I haven't given him anything else food wise, the only thing i have done different in the last couple of days is put a little plastic bird in that he seems to have taken a shine to, any ideas about the fluffing up and closing his eyes, i'm quite anxious.

He hasn't been eating greens at all, angie? This can turn their poos greener and sometimes more watery.
If he is still fluffed, keep him warm. They fluff because they are cold, if sick they lose body heat, and that is why they fluff up. If you don't have any special equipment, small cage with a hot-water bottle wrapped in a towel, and covered on three sides works. Make sure he isn't in a draught - sudden changes of temp can make them sick. Did the plastic toy get a thorough wash before he had it? Do remember he is only a baby yet, and a big day playing can tire him out just like a puppy, and he does need a good 12 hours sleep.
Hopefully things will be right in the morning, but watch him carefully, a vet visit may be needed.

I don't know where you live Angie but do carry some guardian angel in your first aid box, this along side the heat is a good "guestimate" medicine for any bird like this

I live in Greater Manchester, and he has been very busy again last nite playin with his ball again, and he has had no greens at all and is definately not in a draught, obviously the temp goes down in my home at night because i turn off the heating when i go to bed, so don't really know what to do about that one, my mum had a budgie for twelve years, and hers died a few months ago, i have asked her and she said she also had no heat on at nite and her budgie was fine, so i'm still at a loss, I have just been on a site that some kind person on here told me to go on, and there where pictures of poop with different explanations, the pic that was more like my budgies poop it says it may be because he is hungry, and i had moved his millet to the bottom of the cage to get him used to going down for it, when i got up this morning he was playing with his ball at the bottom of the cage, i took him into the kitchen to clean his cage and he was really lively and chirping away, i have now put his millet back on his favourite perch, but the trill is still at the bottom in its seed tray, he has not pooped yet and he is now sat on his perch fluffed up and eyes closed, should i just put the ball in at day time and take it out at nite, because he is forever playing with it.

Angie I know how worrying it can be when you're not sure all is well. Does he seem ill? Is his behaviour normal and is he happy, eating and playing during the day? Like mentioned before on this thread he is just a baby and may still be settling in. If you're happy that he's not cold or in a draught maybe you should just keep an eye out for a change in his behaviour that leads you to think he is unhappy, otherwise try not to worry too much (hard to do I know!) It is quite normal for them to fluff up a bit to sleep when they are tired and many budgies will also have a nap or two during the day so don't worry if he does that either. If he loves the ball I'd be inclined to leave it in as if you remove it you won't know if he's unhappy because it's gone or because he's poorly. Hope this helps a bit

There are many causes for the green colour change in the birds droppings, any green dropping is abnormal and needs immediate attention. Green droppings are caused when the bird has an increased thirst, the feeding of greens, the food is bad or the bird is on the wrong medication. An enlarged green dropping is a sign of stress.
Can the bird find the water, is it clean daily, don't supply greens, give the bird some time out, cover the cage in the afternoons for 2/3 hours to let it rest.Warmth is important , remove the water for 7 days and add cold , weak , black tea.

Thankyou for all your advice, he is very lively and loves his little ball, his poop seems ok now but i am keeping a close eye on him he also seems to be favouring his millet over the trill, i have not give him any other foodstuffs, as i am now reluctant incase it upsets his tummy .

Babies are more susceptible to changes in temperature than adults. If he is still fluffing up, I might recommend putting an extra/thicker blanket over his cage at night or putting an electric heater on for him at night. Also, if he does fluff up again the first step would be to keep him warm, ideally at about 28 degrees. I'm sure if you posted a photo someone would be able to confirm whether the fluffing is a 'normal' fluffing up or something to worry about
