I have never bred budgies before and just sort of let my pair follow their natures. Their mating cycle was interrupted by unavoidable 3-hour car trips a week apart. The 2 eggs laid before the trip hatched 10 days later on the same day. The chicks were 10 days old and thriving when another of the 5 later eggs hatched. This seemed to throw the parents into a state of confusion. She had grown used to leaving the nest for longer periods, while he wasn't guarding the door and tending to her continually. Today he continued that behavior, while she stuck to the eggs like glue and wouldn't let me check their crops for evidence of feeding. Finally I put a small container of egg food and one of water into the nest. I don't know the results yet. Can a breeding pair forget how to tend the young if hatchings don't follow the normal one every other day pattern?

Oops, answered this on your other post: Sorry, I am not sure who can help you with this one, but I imagine it could create havoc with the hen's production of crop milk. All I can offer is good luck.
