Hi everyone,
Been really busy so not been on here in a long time, but was hoping someone could help me.
I have a hen who had 3 chicks (a new pairing), the youngest chick died at about 2.5 weeks old, I could see that he wasn't going to make it, he was really small, wasn't growing much although, his feathers did seem to be growing. The older 2 seemed perfectly fine, however, at about 4 weeks old, I went in to find the younger of the 2 remaining chicks, with a limp right leg and he was lying down unable to stand. His dad is still feeding him, but his leg is still limp, he doesn't seem to have any grip in his right foot.
Any ideas what could be wrong with him? They have calcivet in their soft food, they have cuttlefish bone, iodine, emp, oats, wheat, millet, niger seed, canary seed, red and white millet, fresh water, adults have been treated with worming solution and ivermectin. No mites in the nest or aviary, any idea what could be the problem.
Thanks,
Salma

p.s. he was still in the nest when I found him with a limp leg, so it's not a case of him having fallen out of the nest and injured himself

All the food and supplements sound great. Glad to know that you are taking good care of your budgies Can you please post a picture of the leg with limp?

sorry I probably didn't explain that very well....he doesn't have a limp in his leg, his right leg just isn't working, he doesn't have much feeling in it all, it's all floppy and he's not using it at all. He drags his body along with his beak. He should be eating himself now but he's not eating at all, isn't even attempting to, his dad is still feeding him though.
Will try to get a photo tomorrow

It sounds pretty serious as he doesn't have any life in the leg at all. I think you should see a vet. I'll ask Barrie to have look at this thread.

Thanks to everyone for all your help. My avian vet has been on holiday and the other vets are useless, so useless that they aren't even able to stretch a birds wings!! My dad had a look at the leg and he also seemed to think it was dislocated, but I had no idea how as he had never been out of the nest. But baby didn't make it found him dead on Tuesday

Rest in Peace, little one. Fly high and free from pain. So sorry for your loss, Salma. Nature has her reasons.
